JOB DESCRIPTION:

A Clinical Laboratory Andrologist maintains all andrology services for the organization and works in the area of Andrology laboratory to provide semen analysis, sperm processing for IUI and IVF, and sperm cryopreservation to assist patients in achieving pregnancy. The andrologist performs all aspects of Andrology procedures including but not limited to sperm freezing and storage for cancer patients, fertility preservation, IUI and IVF back up, and epididymal and testicular specimens, and receiving frozen donor sperm from commercial sperm banks. Performs QC in laboratories, maintain inventories, and contributes to day-to-day activities within the lab and collect and reviews lab results with laboratory director.

The position works closely with other embryology and andrology technicians, REI nurses, REI providers and Clinical Nursing Supervisor. In addition the position works with other andrology or embryology lab technicians as well as works with the interdisciplinary Infertility/IVF team as defined by the patient population across the internal organization and between and among external health care agencies.

Should an incumbent of the role want to be trained as an embryologist, and it would benefit the program, the lab technician would receive embryology training during IVF UP weeks by laboratory director or designee. Training of standard embryology procedures (except ICSI and embryo biopsy as these procedures require significantly longer training period) should complete within one year. Upon satisfactory completion of training, the trainee would be eligible to be considered for an embryologist position should one be available and the andrology lab is adequately staffed.

EDUCATION:
4 year college degree in Biology or related field to include math and science and/or equivalent such as medical technology degree.

EXPERIENCE:

At least two years of experience doing hands-on procedures in an Andrology Laboratory preferred. Experience in cell culture and sterile technical technique strongly recommended but not mandatory.
