Minimum Qualifications
An earned entry level graduate degree in Occupational Therapy (MSOT, MOT, ELOTD, etc.) for the rank of Clinical Instructor OR terminal doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field for the ranks of Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor (PhD, PPOTD, EdD, ScD, etc)
A minimum of three years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy.
For appointments at the rank of:
Clinical Instructor: The applicant must demonstrate potential for effective teaching, be able to assist the unit in meeting the need for professional/ clinical services and have experience supervising FW students in clinical practice settings
Clinical Assistant Professor: candidates must demonstrate the potential for effective teaching, student mentoring, and clinical proficiency in their area of expertise, contributing to research publications and presentations, be able to assist the unit in meeting the need for professional/clinical services and have experience supervising FW students in OT practice settings.
Clinical Professor: candidates must demonstrate a history of successful teaching at the graduate level, evidence of scholarly productivity in a cohesive program of research, student mentoring, and leadership or advanced clinical expertise in an area of interest.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
Area of expertise is open, but applications are particularly encouraged from candidates who have experience in one or more of the following realms of practice in Occupational Therapy:
  • Assistive technology
  • Acquired disability in youth or young adulthood
  • Intellectual and Developmental disabilities
  • Mental health/psychosocial practice

License/Certification Required
Initial national board certification as an occupational therapist.
Licensed or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in North Carolina .
Description of the Department or Unit
The Master of Science program in Occupational Therapy is currently in Eligibility status for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and will submit a Candidacy application in December 2023 with plans to enroll the first cohort of students in Fall 2024. The program is located in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences along with programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (BS and MS-SLP) and Athletic Training (MS).
The Beaver College of Health Sciences is comprised of nationally accredited and recognized programs, including Athletic Training, Speech Therapy, Exercise Science, Health Care Management, Nursing, Nutrition, Health & Physical Education, Public Health, Recreation Management, and Social Work. We enroll over 3,700 students and we are committed to elevating the health and quality of life in our region and beyond by preparing exemplary practitioners and leaders through transformative education, collaborative research and community engagement. The student licensure and certification pass rates are at or above the national average in all of our programs. The Beaver College is also home to the Blue Cross NC Institute for Health and Human Services, which supports research, community outreach, and houses its own Interprofessional Clinic. The college has a strong focus on interprofessional education and interdisciplinary research. The majority of programs are located together in Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences (opened in 2018), situated directly across from Watauga Medical Center of the Appalachian Regional Health System.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Master of Science curriculum related to area(s) of experience
  • Collaborate with faculty in the MSOT program to ensure full accreditation for the developing program
  • Establish innovative clinical outreach activities and supervise nontraditional fieldwork settings for MSOT students.
  • Perform academic service appropriate for academic rank and professional or community-based service related to scholarly interests

ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
