Job Summary

InnoVet Health, a small and growing business that provides health IT professional services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is looking for a Clinical Informaticist with a clinical backgroundwho can support healthcare professionals and informaticists with research and organization of clinical knowledge in structured forms for clinical decision support systems. The clinical informaticist leverages clinical expertise, critical thinking, and analytics to identify and facilitate information system improvement to improve the healthcare and patient, family, and clinician experience. The clinical informaticist will serve as a liaison to bridge the gap between clinical practice and health information systems. The clinical informaticist facilitates the identification of solutions utilizing data, research, evidence-based practices, and regulatory requirements. This full-time job is a remote position and does not require relocation. The pay, benefits, and growth potential are competitive.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in assessing the current state, analyzing clinical workflows and processes, and identifying opportunities for health care improvement in the design of future-state processes.
  • Conduct research and synthesize literature articles, professional societies publications, and the web for knowledge artifacts related to a given topic.
  • Utilize data to identify and drive clinical practice and workflow change related to healthcare information technology use.
  • Conduct research on new systems for potential evaluation and adoption.
  • Stay informed about new clinical guidelines and regulations and emerging technologies in healthcare informatics. Maintain a working knowledge of regulatory and compliance information as it relates to clinical information technology use.
  • Facilitate meetings with clinical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to discuss updates to the knowledge artifacts.
  • Collaborates and consults with internal and external clinicians, informaticists, and system architects to share knowledge and expertise and determine the best possible solution for workflow, clinical, and system concerns to improve patient care.
  • Serve as a change agent driving change management to optimize design, development, and adoption of technology-based solutions.
  • Utilize standard tools to document and analyze systems to present comprehensive solutions addressing organizational goals to stakeholders.
  • Maintains relationships and effective communication with Veterans Affairs healthcare professionals, leaders, vendors, and other members of the project team.
  • Provide project management support, manage resources, and complete projects successfully and on schedule.
  • Contribute to innoVet growth initiatives and strategic goals.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in a clinical field such as Nursing, Pharmacy, or Allied Health is required.
  • Master's degree in relevant field preferred.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of clinical and/or informatics-related experience is required.
  • Five years of progressive clinical and/or informatics-related experience is preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience in quality improvement or clinical research preferred.

Licenses and Certification:

  • License in Registered Nursing, Pharmacy, or other Allied Healthcare
  • Education or certification in health informatics, nursing informatics, or Clinical Informatics is preferred.
  • Membership in professional associations is a plus.

Required skills and knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of clinical processes as they relate to integrated clinical information systems.
  • Experience working with clinicians on analyzing clinical problems, workflows, and decision support.
  • Proficient in using health information systems, databases, and EHR.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • There is evidence of an ability to function independently at a high level while actively collaborating with the project team and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in quality improvement or research projects.
  • Ability to manage projects related to optimization of clinical information systems.
  • Ability to manage concurrent initiatives with a high degree of reliability.
  • Understanding of healthcare regulations, standards, and compliance requirements as they relate to clinical information systems.
  • Experience with large healthcare organizations and implementation of Electronic Health Records, Clinical Decision Support Systems, requirement gathering, and health IT standards (HL7 FHIR)
  • Experience with Agile project methodologies (JIRA, Confluence)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to create strong relationships in a professional setting, very organized, strong analytical skills, and computer skills (fluent in Microsoft Office)
