Job description

Job Summary

3D Systems Healthcare is in search of a skilled Clinical Engineer to support execution of 3D Systems VSP surgical planning workflows on site at The Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. This position will partner with healthcare professionals to develop personalized treatment plans and create 3D printed models and instruments that help clinicians translate the treatment plan into the operating theater. This role will also work with 3D Systems Healthcare manufacturing operations located in Littleton, Colorado to ensure execution of workflow activities on time and in compliance with procedures. In addition to completing clinical workflow needs, the role is responsible for the management of on-site assets such as 3D printers, software systems, and post-processing materials and equipment. Finally, the role serves as a liaison for developing new workflows, clinical capabilities, and research and development activities related to 3D printing.

Primary Job Functions

A typical day in this role would involve performing the following primary functions:

  • Executing on digital workflow elements of personalized surgical planning by initiating new cases, reviewing patient imaging studies, segmenting anatomies of interest from DICOM into 3D files, and designing patient matched devices such as anatomical models, patient-specific surgical instruments, and radiotherapy accessories that help clinicians perform surgical procedures by leveraging established work instructions
  • Translating clinical needs gathered from a variety of healthcare professionals across several medical specialties via in-person or remote web meetings
  • Operating and maintaining software systems such as VSP Connect, D2P, Geomagic Freeform, and 3DSprint
  • Operating and maintaining hardware such as a variety of 3D printers, post processing, and inspection equipment
  • Maintain detailed records of each case in accordance with 3D Systems’ Quality Management System
  • Manage multiple priorities and communicate closely with a multidisciplinary team
  • Support and collaborate on education, training, and research activities related to medical 3D printing.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master of Science in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant technical field
  • 1-4 years of relevant work experience in a regulated field such as medical devices or Clinical Engineering
  • Experience collaborating or interacting with healthcare professionals.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with basic human anatomy
  • Working knowledge of medical imaging modalities
  • Capability in DICOM segmentation software packages preferred
  • Proficiency with standard CAD software packages, or alternatively expertise in software for anatomic modeling, surgical guide creation, and patient specific implant design highly preferred
  • Willingness to understand surgical procedures and to speak and understand specific terminology of healthcare professionals.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems leveraged in medical device manufacturing such as 21CFR820 and/or ISO 13485
  • Exposure to 3D printing technologies such as SLA, SLS, MJP, CJP and FDM
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers
  • Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
