Job Purpose
The role of the LPN Educator is to provide adequate and appropriate education and supervision to students of the training programs as required by state and federal standards under the direction of the RN Program Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides education to students in skills pertinent to their job duties in a skill lab or in a clinical setting.
• Performs competency checklist to ensure understanding of skills.
• Provides education in the following areas: infection control, communication and interpersonal skills, safety, and emergency procedures, choking, resident rights, care of Alzheimer’s residents, and abuse.
• Develop and maintain a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
• Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent employee information.
• Performs other related assignments as required.

Qualifications
• Must possess, as a minimum, a practical license to practice in the State and have at least one year of experience in the practice of the profession in a nursing facility.
• Must demonstrate competence in clinical skills and education of adults.
• Must possess knowledge of basic computer systems and display a comfortability with utilizing.
• Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
• Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
• Must be able to relate information clearly and concisely.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Working Conditions
· The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens: Level I
- Works throughout the nursing service area.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
Physical Requirements
· Alternates frequently between sitting, standing, and walking.
· Frequent bending, squatting, reaching, and grasping
· Occasional bending and twisting at waist.
· Occasional reaching above or below should heights, e.g., charts or supplies on upper shelves.
· Rare occasions of kneeling, crawling, or driving
· Frequent lifting and/or carrying up to 10 pounds
· Rare occasions of lifting and/or carrying up to 25 pounds and above
· Push/pull with up to 50 pounds of force
· Use of computer and telephone
