General Purpose of Job:
Provides nutritional care to the patients of Driscoll Children’s Hospital through the following duties and responsibilities..

- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Works with medical staff and nursing staff to promote optimal patient care; attends regular weekly patient care meetings on assigned patient care units.
- Develops nutrition care plans for patients at nutritional risk and assures implementation and evaluation of care plans, including recommendations for nutrition intervention and education.
- Follows up on patients identified at nutritional risk according to the departments Standards of Care throughout the hospitalization or until the patient is nutritionally stable.
- Coordinates with appropriate hospital staff the need for continuum of care.
- Participates in the education of dietetic interns.
- Reviews formula orders in the formula room, checking mixes for accuracy/correctness.
- Develops current education materials.
- Inputs charges as appropriate in hospital computer system.
- Maintains monthly records of patients seen for statistical reports.
- Assures that specialty clinics are properly supported.
- Covers for other Dietitians in there absence.
- Coordinates with Director on all aspects of patient care.
- Interviews patients to obtain information regarding food habits and preferences.
- Coordinates with the department director in planning basic and modified diet menus for patients considering food preferences, nutritional and caloric content and food cost.
- Assure correctness of daily menus and portion specification orders for guidance of Food and Nutrition Staff.
- Periodically inspects prepared foods to ensure adherence to specifications, observing serving appearance, quantity, temperature and palatability.
- Monitors the departments Quality Improvement Programs and assists the department director in initiating corrective action.
Education and/or Experience:

¾Bachelor's degree (B. S.) or Master (M.S.) and successful completion of a Coordinated Undergraduate Program (CUP) or Internship Program; Registered by the American Dietetic Association required; Licensure by the State of Texas required . New graduates to obtain Registration within 1 year of hire; Licensure by the State of Texas within 3 months of obtaining Registration; required. Zero-3 years dietitian experience.
