Job description

Stanford University is seeking a Clinical AI Lead Technologist to work under minimal direction of a director, physician, or radiologist to develop, deliver, and oversee various services that build upon and expand the scope and value of clinical AI implementation in 3DQ Lab. The Clinical AI Lead Technologist will be leading the responsible implementation of AI solutions involving medical image analysis (primarily CT and MRI data). The best candidates for in this role will have demonstrated a deep awareness and skill for medical image analysis processing on DICOM images and furthermore have participated in multiple software implementations and evaluations. Ideally the candidate will have AI evaluation experience as well, having worked with clinical partners to assess, report, and decide upon implementation of automated solutions primarily for medical image analysis.  

Duties include:

  • Work closely with the physician to develop workflows that satisfy the needs for image processing workflows, 3D reformations, and post-processing procedures.
  • Oversee day to day operations of oncologic image processing services in 3DQ Lab, including patient flow and quality of images; participate in the design, development, implementation, and execution of multiple research studies involving medical imaging systems; use product, research software and hardware, and/or computer systems to generate clinical images and data to assist in diagnoses and therapies.
  • Operate computer systems to generate images or models for use in surgeries or therapies.
  • Transfer, position and instruct patients regarding 3D reconstructions; instruct researchers, technologists, and physicians regarding 3D reconstructions. 
  • Serve as expert within the unit; provide expert technical, scientific, and educational consultation to researchers, technologists, and physicians; function as the technical expert and supervisor, and oversee the daily operations 3DQ Lab oncologic services and workflows. 
  • Develop and tests new products involving medical imaging and/or 3D reformations and post processing. 
  • Post-process volumetric digital image data on 3D workstations; produce and track quantitative measurements; ensure that the post-processed images are of maximal clinical value.
  • Develop relevant analytics and accurately record all procedures performed and maintain necessary paperwork and/or database for scheduling and billing purpose.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and quality assurance programs for all aspects of operations; serve as primary safety officer for the center, department, or facility; develop and maintain safety documentation for patients, technologists, researchers, and physicians; act as primary contact for decisions concerning human subject safety, screening issues, and contraindications of undergoing examination.
  • Design and implement new protocols for data acquisition and/or 3D reformations and post processing.
  • Handle budget development, expenditure tracking, and financial reports, and determine all facility resource needs; direct training and schedules for Radiologist Assistants (MR or 3D).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Prior experience with implementing and operating Clinical AI.
  • Prior experience evaluating clinical image processing software.
  • Master's Degree.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

B.S. or B.A. degree ten years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Two years supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of judgment and skill.
  • Reliable self-starting and self-directed nature exhibiting initiative and focused work ethic.
  • Extensive, expert experience in cross-sectional anatomy and physiology, sterile technique, patient relations, medical imaging examination preparation, and medical imaging safety and screening procedures.
  • Extensive, expert knowledge and skills in the operation of medical imaging systems, 3D reformations, and post-processing procedures.
  • Extensive working knowledge of medical imaging physics, principles, tissue contrast, and applications. 
  • Expert knowledge with Unix, Windows, Mac, and/or Linux computer operating systems; extensive experience in MR system operation and troubleshooting system and computer issues.
  • Ability to identify images for post-processing and/or artifacts in the images; ability to respond to detailed requests for views and/or images depicting certain anatomy and/or pathology. 
  • Extensive experience in teaching and instruction of technologists, researchers, and/or physicians.
  • Ability to collaborate with other professional colleagues. 
  • Previous experience supervising direct report employees.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

  • Must hold one of the following certifications: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), California Registry of Radiologic Technologists, American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).   
  • Advanced ARRT registry (e.g. CT, MR, etc.) desired. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • No heart implants.
  • Requires good fitness/aerobic capacity and visual/auditory acuity including color vision.
  • Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently grasp forcefully, operate foot and/or hand controls.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull patients or equipment that weigh 11 to >40 pounds.
  • Rarely stand/walk, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, write by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 'Medical imaging' in this document includes but is not limited to X-Ray, Nuclear Medicine, CT, PET, and/or Magnetic Resonance. Individuals are exposed to these forms of imaging and associated high magnetic fields and noise at greater than80dB TWA on a regular basis.
  • May be exposed to allergens from animal models, patients and human scan subjects.

Additional WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Frequent walking between Operating Rooms and 3DQ Lab offices.
  • Occasional exposure to 3D Printing equipment and associated print media and cleaning materials.

The expected pay range for this position is $136,000 to $169,000 annually. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs
