Job description

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland's most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It's like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a Climbing Gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, full massage and physical therapy offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC's 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.
Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.
Join our team as the vibrant heartbeat of our climbing community! We're seeking a passionate Climbing Gym Coordinator to take the helm of our bustling gym and outdoor programs. In this pivotal role, you'll spearhead daily operations, ensuring safety measures are top-notch and members are treated to unforgettable experiences.
Position Summary:
Working hand in hand with our Climbing Gym Supervisor, you'll be the driving force behind administrative duties, employee management, and the evolution of our programs. From leading rock-climbing classes for diverse age groups to meticulously inspecting equipment, your dedication will ensure our climbers scale new heights safely and confidently.
Key Responsibilities:
The Climbing Gym Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the effective functioning of the Climbing Gym and associated outdoor programs. This position encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Operations Support: Assisting in day-to-day operations of the Climbing Gym, ensuring equipment functionality, facility cleanliness, and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Member Engagement: Offering friendly assistance and guidance to gym members, addressing inquiries, and ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all.
  • Policy Awareness: Supporting the implementation of climbing wall policies and procedures, staying informed on updates, and promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Inventory Management: Maintaining inventory for the Climbing Gym retail store and office supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and efficient procurement processes.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety policies and procedures, conducting regular equipment inspections, and promptly reporting any hazards or incidents.
  • Communication: Engaging in effective communication and coordination with team members, supervisors, club management, and external partners to facilitate seamless program execution.
  • Professional Development: Actively participating in training sessions, meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated on industry trends and best practices.

What You'll Bring:
  • At least 5 years of Climbing Gym operations experience, showcasing your expertise in instruction and supervision.
  • 2 years of experience in building, leading, and nurturing teams.
  • A demonstrated knack for working with children in Climbing Gym or outdoor recreation settings.
  • A current Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) certification or demonstrate the ability to obtain it within your first 3 months with us.
  • Proficiency in essential computer applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook, with an aptitude for learning new software.
  • Efficient written and verbal communication skills, with an unwavering focus on delivering exceptional member service.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with members and team.
  • Ability to effortlessly juggle multiple responsibilities, skillfully prioritizing tasks with the finesse of a seasoned professional.
