Climber/Pruner

The Climber/Prunerunder supervision, performs all types of work required for the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees and large shrubs. Performs related work.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Climbs, prunes, braces, cuts, and fells trees and large shrubs.
• Sprays trees and large shrubs to protect them against insects, fungi or other parasites and disease.
• Plants, transplants, and cares for trees and large shrubs.
• May perform tree inspection work as required.
• Operates manual and power-driven equipment in the performance of the above duties and operates cars, trucks, and other motorized equipment incidental to the performance of the above duties.

Requirements:

• Six months of satisfactory, full-time experience as a climber pruner or arborist performing all types of tree work
• The planting, maintenance, and removal of trees and large shrubs, including climbing, pruning, bracing, cutting, and felling trees and large shrubs.
• Operating manual, power-driven, and motorized equipment for the performance of these duties
• Experience as a ground person is not acceptable towards meeting this requirement.

License Requirements:

• A motor vehicle driver's license valid in the State of New York
• Within one year of appointment, employees must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License valid in the State of New York; the Class B Commercial Driver's License must be maintained for the duration of this employment.
• With one year of appointment, employee must obtain ISA Certification, which must be maintained for the duration of this appointment.

Salary: $70,128/yr.
