Position Summary: Provides technical support for litigation support services and software. Job duties include applying experience and knowledge of a wide variety of litigation support, eDiscovery, and computer technologies to process incoming data; manage workflow, project management, documenting work status; training, supporting, and troubleshooting end user issues; ensure quality control measures are maintained; and documenting processes and procedures. Collects client data using forensically-sound principles and best practices, on-site and remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with Manager, Client Advisory Technology Services (CATS), Specialist participates in litigation technology strategy, implementation, and operations, including all hardware and software systems related to case document databases, ESI processing, indexing and OCR.
  • Determines technology needs of litigators, evaluates possible solutions, and applies technology to meet the needs of litigation.
  • Sets up, maintains, administers, and manages the eDiscovery databases. Loads new data, images, documents and/or deposition transcripts in existing databases.
  • Directly develops data quality control, query and/or report design and ongoing maintenance of databases.
  • Serves as a project manager across multiple cases to ensure that all tasks are prioritized, and deadlines are met appropriately and provides regular project status to the users. Meets deliverables and budget expectations of attorneys and clients.
  • Manipulates data, develop queries and reports on existing databases. Responsible for the integrity of imported data for all databases.
  • Provides direct training, troubleshooting, problem-solving and technical support on all department systems for all users of those systems throughout the firm.
  • Maintains accurate records of job intake, requirements, media, and productions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with attorneys and others.
  • Communicates clearly orally and in writing; organize workload; prioritize tasks; work under strict deadlines and under the pressures of a litigation environment.
  • Promotes and communicates with attorneys, paralegals and administration in all offices with regard to available departmental technology and services. Prepares and maintains regular oral and written communication with other members of staff with regard to both front office and back-office issues related to practice support technology.
  • Inputs billable and non-billable time in CMS finance software in timely and regular basis.
  • Provides bi-weekly updates to Manager and Director of eDiscovery/CATS.
  • Stays current with best industry standard practice support technologies and assists in the development of firm-wide strategies for application of litigation technology. Advises attorneys, users and clients on appropriate case technology and eDiscovery current best industry practices.
  • Collects client data remotely via VPN or Remote Desktop access, or on-site as required by the matter at hand.
  • Performs other special projects as requested.

Position Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Project Management and task prioritization skills required
  • Prior experience in a law firm environment is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of database fundamentals including query and report writing is preferred
  • Ability to work additional time in order to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours
  • Proficiency with Relativity and Relativity Processing, Nuix, Opus 2 systems is preferred
  • Knowledge and deep understanding of: legal principles and terminology; EDRM; methods and requirements of legal discovery and legal research; principles and practices of document collection, imaging, coding, electronic storage, and retrieval; current word processing, spreadsheet, data base, multimedia presentation; functions and operations of personal computers and peripherals and troubleshooting.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in technology or similar discipline is required; bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years litigation support experience, training or education is required.
  • Experience with a wide variety of technology subjects, including SQL, Access, and MS Office is strongly preferred.
  • Paralegal experience or certification is desirable.
  • Previous law firm experience is preferred.

  • Frequent interruptions from attorneys and staff
  • This job has a billable goal of 750 hours annually.
  • Uninterruptible project work which may require mandatory overtime.
  • Ability to travel on commercial carriers is required; international travel may be required.
