This posting will be available till it is filled.This position is temporary for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school yearLocation: Neil ArmstrongHours: M-Th, 2hrs per DayStart date: As soon as possibleBilingual (English/Spanish) Perferred Job Classification: CLC NAMS Mariachi Coach- Temporary Job Title: CLC NAMS Mariachi Coach- Temporary- 21st Century Community Learning Center(CCLC) Grant - Extended Day ProgramPOSITION SUMMARY Tuesday & Thursday 4:00pm - 5:15pm January - June 4, 2024 This position is responsible for establishing and leading a successful mariachi group during the CLC Extended Day Program at Neil Armstrong Middle School. The coach will collaborate with the CLC Director for the development of a Mariachi group. In addition to promoting self-discipline, character, teamwork, leadership, citizenship, responsibility, academic excellence.

The primary duties of this position will be to instruct and manage 7th and 8th grade students with and without prior mariachi experience. The Mariachi Coach will work alongside the Forest Grove High School Mariachi director with the intention of preparing students and motivating them to continue with Mariachi once they advance to the High school grade level.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Organize and lead weekly after-school practice sessions Coordinates with CLC Director for publicity, in social media and school's web page to communicate with students and families about upcoming rehearsals, performances and other opportunities Coordinates with CLC Director for parent informational meetings including trip planning and fundraisingCreates member audition materials and information packetsCoordinates with Mariachi Director and CLC Director to Recruits student volunteers from the high schoolOrganizes and offers individual, small group, and whole group instruction in music theory, technique, and musical styles.Coordinates with CLC Director for equipment inventoryMaintains Mariachi music library Participates in professional development opportunities offered by the CLC program and Neil Armstrong Middle School.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Confers regularly with the music department Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School diploma or equivalent; Experience: Professional Mariachi Performance ExperienceTeaching Mariachi experienceSkills:Demonstrate ability to teach methods and strategies in Orchestra instrumentsStrong organizational, communication and interpersonal skillsDemonstrate ability to foster cooperation and establish professional relationships with other music faculty members, administration and staff Demonstrate success in motivating high-achieving students to excelKnowledge: Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes. Knowledge in English, spelling, mathematics.

Abilities: Work harmoniously with others. Work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job. Become familiar with school procedures and procedures relating to student supervision.

Able to use appropriate teaching methods and present curriculum materials to students. Work independently without supervision, and with minimum oral/written instructions. Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies.

Ability to rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, moving to various locations within the classroom and school. Able to monitor halls and supervise students outdoors while loading and unloading buses and move to various locations within a classroom setting.

Continuing Education/Training Clearances: First Aid/CPR Certification. Pre-employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
