We are currently seeking a Complex Property Damage Supervisor to fill a position in our Parsippany or Woodbridge, NJ office. In this position, you will be responsible for the management of claim adjusters handling the investigation, evaluation and disposition of first and third party auto Property Damage claims. The selected individual will be responsible for ensuring departmental objectives are achieved by providing employees with guidance, training, support and coaching. They are responsible for ensuring that all claims are addressed within State regulatory compliance guidelines.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Directs and controls work of their unit and other areas assigned, in relation to automobile physical damage claims.
- Complies with the Companies Quality Assurance program to identify problems, provide direction and critique performance of the unit members. Provide feedback and training to the staff based on results. Review and approve damage and settlement amounts that exceed staff's authority levels.
- Monitor assignments and work flow to ensure timely service, efficiency and the quality of work product.
- Conduct detailed reviews of pending claims through diary controls and reports. Address inquiries from Independent Agents.
- Monitor phone system in real time for claim representative availability in servicing our customers.
- Train and develop staff to achieve and maintain high quality performance standards. Conduct staff meetings to answer questions, complete training, and discuss new or revised procedures.
- Perform salary administration and performance evaluation of staff. Address and properly document performance issues, action plans and general developmental needs.
- Review data and reports and generate reports and analysis to assess the staff's quality of work product and to determine why objectives are or are not being met.
- Resolve complaints from insureds, claimants, brokers, other claim personnel, etc., through active participation.
- Complete special projects as assigned by management.
- Make recommendations to management for promotions, staff size, staffing changes, salary administration. Likely to participate in the hiring of new employees.
- General day-to-day administrative recording keeping and compliance requirements.
- Act as an intermediary between the company, preferred vendors and customers, resolving any disputes that may arise.
- Ensure that service, loss and expense control are maintained at all times.
- Adhere to privacy guidelines, law and regulations pertaining to claims handling.
- Participate in catastrophic claim handling as requested/needed. This may include traveling to other locations, extended hours and up to a three-week stay.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred or combination of relevant experience and education.
- 3-4 years of claims or other applicable experience that must include extensive comparative negligence.
- Prior claim supervisory experience of 1 to 2 years.
- Solid understanding of Comparative Negligence.
- NY Appraiser license preferred but not required.
- Multi State knowledge of: NJ, MA and PA.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Products.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A friendly, customer service focused orientation.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task and a proficiency personal computers.
