Job Summary
This single vacancy is posted in a range of Claims Adjuster, Senior to Claims Adjuster, Principal. Please note that education and/or relevant experience will be used to determine which of these will be the appropriate salary and salary grade level to fill this vacancy.
REMOTE REPORTING (St. Albans, WV)
CLAIMS ADJUSTER, SENIOR (SALARY GRADE 6)
CLAIMS ADJUSTER, PRINCIPAL (SALARY GRADE7)
SALARY RANGE: 70,961.00 (MINIMUM)-98,042.00 (MIDPOINT)
Proficient and knowledgeable in processing complex bodily injury and property damage claims made by third parties against AEP. Highly skilled in researching and investigating claims and consulting with AEP departments. Recommend and implement process improvement. Works independently and assists with coaching and training other Claim Adjusters.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Adjust complex liability claims by investigating the matter with the claimant or responsible party, researching AEP databases, and consulting with AEP's line department and other departments as needed. Obtain available documentation such as police and fire reports, documentation of damages to claimant/customer property. Interact extensively with various parties throughout the claims process, from initiation through resolution.
  • Determine liability of Company based on facts found in the investigation, the tariffs and Tort Law
  • Determine proper expense and indemnity reserves. Recognize the threshold and requirements for reporting claims to excess carriers.
  • Evaluate damages for reasonableness and amounts payable. Negotiate complex and high dollar settlements based on liability and damages. Advise management of any unusual challenges and develop action plans to manage them.
  • Accurately and timely document the investigation, liability, and damages in the claims systems. Complete reports and comply with internal policies and procedures. Clearly communicate consise action plans for moving the case to resolution, i.e. Claim committee reviews.
  • Respond to Commission complaints and complaints forwarded or referred to Senior Management.
  • Manage litigation matters by coordinating and collaborating with in-house counsel. Assist outside legal counsel in the preparation of and response to the litigation process.
  • Conduct Public Liability Accident Investigator Training sessions.
  • Train and mentor others within the department to help further develop their skills.
  • Recognize and resolve complex questions of coverage under the insurance policy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
CLAIMS ADJUSTER, SENIOR
Education: Bachelor's degree or 6 years of education and experience in the Risk Management field (including experience specified below).
Experience: Minimum 4 years' experience in adjusting third party/public liability bodily injury and property damage claims.
CLAIMS ADJUSTER, PRINCIPAL
Education: Bachelor's degree or 8 years of education and experience in the Risk Management field (including experience specified below)
Experience: Minimum 6 years' experience in adjusting third party/public liability bodily injury and property damage claims.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Knowledge of the electric utility industry operations, with a preference in Distribution and Transmission systems.
  • License and certification from AIC, CPCU &/or ARM preferred.
  • Experience in adjusting complex commercial liability claims.
  • Computer skills ' Competent in Word and Excel.
  • Interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Travel required ' Occasional.

Compensation Grade:
SP20-006
Compensation Range:
$70,961.00-88,700.50 USD
Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate's ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate's expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP's staffing needs.
