Under general supervision, the Claims Technician Financial Lines performs standard duties in assisting claim professionals by utilizing routine claim handling support procedures, including file documentation, document collecting, bill reconciliation, file monitoring and file closing. Collaboratively works with claim professionals, claim management and other internal and external business partners to produce desired results.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Performs routine processing of various claim handling support tasks as directed by claim professionals and/or claim management.
  • Monitors claims for activity and status, requests and obtains file documentation, documents activity in claim notes.
  • Verifies and updates file coding, identifies and labels file documents, and prepares files for closing.
  • Within designated authority, reviews routine claims utilizing preset procedures to assist in closing matters
  • On a limited basis, collaborates with insureds, claimants, and internal/external partners on routine matters.
  • Follows preset procedures and with appropriate authority, gathers file closing documents and issues final payments.
  • Obtains backup documentation as necessary to substantiate claims.
  • Maintains files and may prepare standard statistical reports as requested.
  • May provide assistance and/or training to other Claims Technicians.
  • May assist in special project work.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of claims handling procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable insurance products.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at high levels of productivity and quality.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Outlook as well as other business-related software.
  • Is externally focused.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Typically a minimum three years of insurance or claims related experience.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $37,000 to $64,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
