CIVIL RIGHTS FELLOWSHIP (INCARCERATED PEOPLE'S PROJECT)

As Nevada's largest and most active organization devoted to the protection and advancement of Civil Rights and civil liberties, the ACLU of Nevada is one of the state's most effective public interest nonprofits. The organization works on a broad range of issues, including but not limited to free speech, election protection, education reform, drug law reform, women's issues, prisoners' rights, immigrant rights, the rights of the unsheltered, criminal justice reform, and LGBTQIA+ rights. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The ACLU of Nevada's Civil Rights Fellowship (Incarcerated People's Project) will give one law school or master's degree program graduate a first-of-its-kind fellowship opportunity towork as part of our legal team and make a systemic impact to Nevada's prison system. The fellowship will last one year, but may be renewed for the right candidate if additional funding becomes available. The recipient of this fellowship will work exclusively on issues related to our incarcerated population and is exclusive to those holding a Juris Doctor or alternatively, a Master's Degree, alongside a demonstrable history of service to our community.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The fellowship compensation range is $50,000.00 - $67,000. Benefits include healthcare, vision, dental, retirement, generous time off, and a flexible remote-work policy. Bar dues, liability insurance, and CLE expenses are provided by the ACLU of Nevada.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engaging in litigation support for issues impacting incarcerated people within Nevada;
  • Visiting a variety of correctional facilities within Nevada for client interviews;
  • Research and writing related to issues within Nevada prisons; and
  • Ongoing duties as assigned by the Legal Director and Executive Director.


REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor, Master's of Social Work, or other Master's level degree;
  • Excellent research and writing skills;
  • Ability and flexibility to travel statewide within Nevada as directed;
  • Demonstrable commitment to the community through service and/or leadership; and
  • Experience working in collaborative, diverse, team-based environments.
