DESCRIPTION OF WORK
DEFINITION: This position is responsible for assisting with maintenance and installation of traffic signal equipment.
REPORTS TO: This position is responsible for assisting with a variety of duties related to transportation, stormwater, surveying, and design of municipal infrastructure. This position reports to the Assistant City Engineer.
HOURS OF WORK: (8:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday)
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Assist with maintenance & installation of traffic signal equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of jobs completed.
- Assist with signs and pavement marking maintenance.
- Assist with stormwater investigations and activities related to the City's MS4 Stormwater permit.
- Assist with activities associated with the city's water resources program (water and sewer).
- Assist with surveying, inspections, or other special projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college Engineering program.
- Microsoft Office software skills required.
- Use of hand tools.
- Physical dexterity needed.
- Must be in possession of a valid driver's license in the state of North Carolina. Driving history will be checked.
- Safety shoes are required.
NOTE: Preference will be given to students enrolled in Civil or Environmental Engineering.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software.
- Minimum knowledge of civil or environmental engineering (a preference).

- Beginner (create document, copy, paste, labels and envelopes. able to create a basic spreadsheet with tables of information and format it for printing)
- Intermediate (create tables, charts, headers/footers, utilize styles, format sections. able to create auto-calculating spreadsheets, draw pictures, and sort and filter tables of data)
- Advanced (create forms, templates, perform mail merge, macros. able to create pivot tables, write macros, and link Excel spreadsheets) No experience with Microsoft Word or Excel.

- Advanced (understanding of the system's architecture, framework, and models; proficiency in writing complex queries)
