Job Summary

AEI is currently seeking a mid-level engineer with a minimum of 5 years' experience in transportation design and project/client management. This individual will help lead the growth of our Civil Engineering practice in our Louisville office along with leading the project design, client communication, and management on a wide range of large and small project.  They will assist in managing design technicians, engineering interns and other support staff to help grow the AEI brand and expertise within the region. Applicant must be responsible, highly motivated and a detail oriented individual. This position provides a motivated individual willing to grow with the changing skills and technology required of an Engineer an opportunity for advancement in a robust KY based firm. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and develop project plans and criteria for a variety of highway/civil projects.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering
  • Coordinate project assignments with those of other engineers and technicians in his/her discipline group. Review drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and engineers and architects and recommend necessary changes.
  • Research code issues and work with City, State, and County officials. Research design options and document findings.
  • Prepares for approval scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments
  • Actively involved with clients and business development, may attend "kick-off" and design review meetings

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree, Civil Engineering.  EIT required, PE preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Transportation Design
  • State DOT design experience preferred
  • Experience with KYTC Design Manual, Plan Preparation and CADD Standards preferred
  • Experience with KYTC Highway Drainage Design Software and HEC-RAS, Stormcad, etc. preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with OpenRoads Design (ORD) and InRoads preferred
  • Ability to perform routine calculations; read and interpret documents
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented individual with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in oral and written communications
  • Although the working condition for this position is primarily a professional office position, the position may at times be required to assist in field work.  The physical requirements and working conditions for the field work are as follows:
    • Routinely lift 25 pounds, but about once a week may be required to lift 50 pounds.
    • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and environments
    • Other physical requirements – squatting, kneeling, climbing, walking certain distances.
