Job Title: Civil Engineer (Dam Engineer)
Work Location: Detroit, MI
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides professional Civil Engineering and construction management support by performing tasks such as: serves as a general engineer providing professional and technical leadership; guidance, and expertise in managing contractor executed construction projects
- Review contract plans and specifications as well as the 3-D model and example submittals
- Review submittals (shop drawings) for concrete monoliths for lock chambers
- Responsible for reviewing the concrete lift drawings as well as the reinforcing lift drawings
- Experience with reinforced concrete and reviewing reinforcing drawings for relevancy to the project requirements (mass concrete experience preferred)
- Serves as the organizational subject matter expert regarding national standards and practices for Civil Engineering designs, foundation analysis dams and lock structures as well as bridges and roads.
- Reviews as-built drawings and replies to RFI requests
- Performs quality assurance inspections and general construction management and oversight from a Civil Engineering perspective
- Review construction lift plans involving cranes and rigging
- Experience with reviewing contractor claims and pay applications
- Provides safety oversight, documentation of such oversight, and directs corrective actions as required to ensure worker and public safety
- Inspection, investigation, and condition assessment of existing dams including review and surveillance of monitoring data.
- Conduct potential failure mode analyses and risk analyses for water storage and hydropower dams, including identifying and developing potential failure modes, and serving as Independent Consultant or Facilitator in risk analysis workshops.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent
- 10-15 years of experience or more of relevant experience or as structural engineer on large complex multimillion dollar federal civil works construction projects
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
- Army Corp of Engineering (USACE), Tennessee Valley Authority, or other federal project experience, preferred.
- Experience with lock, dam and/or levee construction
- Demonstrated experience in heavy civil construction with an emphasis on structural concrete, rebar, and formwork
- Relevant experience with reinforced concrete and reviewing reinforcing drawings as well as review submittals (shop drawings) for concrete monoliths
- Experience in Revit is also preferred.
- Experience with design and monitoring shop fabrication of welded steel structures
- Experience with review of construction lift plans involving cranes and rigging
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Must be resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to people
- Strong commitment to ensure safe project execution.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
- Ability to carry required instruments and equipment
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
