The Civil Designer position is based at our Chicago area office at 720 E Butterfield Rd, Lombard, IL 60148
Primary Function:
The Civil Designer will perform routine design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in basic design techniques and procedures, under close supervision. Drafting will comprise a large portion of job responsibility. Thorough knowledge of CAD will be required.

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Associates degree in drafting & Design is required. Extensive experience in drafting disciplines with a background in civil / structural or transmission design is strongly preferred. Experience with AutoCAD 2010 or newer is required. Experience with Microstation and PLS-CADD is a plus.
Possess skills in the following areas:

- Produce new drawings from examples of previous projects and/or standards with some supervision
- Research information in catalogues, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material
- Calculate structure heights and weights, concrete volumes, equipment fit-up, or other basic tasks
- Learn and properly use the document management system
- Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
- Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
- Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
- Other duties as required

- Mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry
- Extensive knowledge of various CADD programs
- Basic knowledge of the major components of a substation
- Basic oral and written communications
- Basic knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
- Working in a team environment
- Communicating effectively with co-workers
