JOB TITLE:   

Associate Dean for Faculty Affairsand Research

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairsand Research (ADFAR) will be responsible for facilitating Faculty Affairs and Research-related activities within the College of Health Sciences.  Reporting to the Dean of the College and working in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean, the ADFAR will be responsible for coordinating the College's retention, tenure, and promotion (RTP) process; preparing and supporting faculty as they go through the RTP process; supporting the hiring and onboarding of new faculty members; coordinating the College's faculty development initiatives; overseeing faculty dispute resolution procedures; ensuring the College follows best practices in the management and oversight of funded research, service, training, and community engagement activities; stimulating new and continued sponsored project activity; ensuring pre- and post-award procedures within the College support faculty excellence; working with individual faculty and groups of faculty members to grow their research agendas; evaluating preproposals; and building a culture of research among the College's faculty.  The ADFAR will hold a tenured / tenure-track faculty appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank within an appropriate unit within the College (nursing, pharmacy, communication disorders, social work, or kinesiology and health).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Coordinating the College's retention, tenure, and promotion (RTP) process; preparing and supporting faculty as they go through the RTP process; supporting the hiring and onboarding of new faculty members; coordinating the College's faculty development initiatives; overseeing faculty dispute resolution procedures
  • Ensuring the College follows best practices in the management and oversight of funded research, service, training, and community engagement activities; stimulating new and continued sponsored project activity; ensuring pre- and post-award procedures within the College support faculty excellence; working with individual faculty and groups of faculty members to grow their research agendas; evaluating preproposals; and building a culture of research among the College's faculty
  • Teaching, research, and service associated with underlying faculty position

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Earned doctorate in a health sciences-related field

Professional achievements meriting appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank

Demonstrated experience with promotion and tenure procedures

Demonstrated experience in securing and managing federal funding for research, service, training, and/or community engagement activities

Demonstrated supervisory/management experience

Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

Expertise in rural/frontier health

Experience supervising and/or managing Faculty Affairs

Experience with supporting research among clinician faculty

Dedication to collaborative/interdisciplinary research

Track record as PI of federal grants from HHS (e.g., NIH, HRSA, SAMHSA, CDC)
