The is growing and searching for a Marketing and Grants Specialist to be part of a dynamic team making a real impact. Both Iowans living on the farm and those in our towns and cities are impacted almost daily by the work of the Department.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is contract-covered and part of collective bargaining. It reports to the Choose Iowa Program Director and works closely with the Communications and Accounting Teams in support of the mission of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. This is a Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week position and is located in Des Moines at the Henry A. Wallace Building.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Marketing coordination:
    1. Develop and implement Marketing and digital communications campaigns for the Choose Iowa program to increase brand awareness and program membership. Obtain cost estimates and track costs plus maintain production schedules.
    2. Plan and coordinate social media content creation, scheduling, monitoring and listening, and evaluation of performance and reporting for Choose Iowa social media accounts.
    3. Develop and maintain website content, ensuring accurate and timely updates of information, plus assist account users and monitor website program functions and processes for membership and grant administration.
    4. Write, design, edit, review, schedule and publish digital and printed materials including brochures, news releases, newsletters, blog stories, guides, toolkits, webinars and other educational and promotional materials. Support website content creation and maintenance including recipes, event calendar, membership and technical support plus review and approve membership applications.
    5. Track and report campaign, website and social media analytics and performance.
  • Grant coordination:
    1. Coordinate grant application, review, scoring and awarding processes including preparing the application, establishing and leading the scoring team, congregating scores, disseminating and finalizing grant agreements, and providing feedback to applicants.
    2. Coordinate grant agreement preparation and approvals; maintain grant documentation and monitor deadlines and due dates to ensure program efficiency and timeliness; report as required by each grant.
    3. Oversee grant management including receiving and processing reimbursement requests, reviewing and evaluating documentation and processing payments.
    4. Prepare periodic reports and comparative analysis as requested. Provide interpretation, analyses and suggestions for problem resolution as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud programs, Canva, DSLR photography, video/audio editing, social media account management, paid digital advertising and campaign development and implementation.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint plus Drupal and HTML.
  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving abilities to use logic and deductive and inductive reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Implementation of or experience with managing grant programs is preferred but not required.
  • Iowa driver's license.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications and experience equal to two years of full-time work planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking.
2) All of the following (a and b):
a. Two years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking; and
b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications equals one year of fulltime experience.
3) Number two above, where twenty-four semester hours of postgraduate coursework in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required full-time work experience.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 18 months of full-time work as an Information Specialist 1.
