Job Description
Forensic Interviewer

Full-time

Salary: $40,315-42,000

This position is for our CAC Satellite office located in Forest, VA. There will be some travel between our other locations as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • A professional with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, counseling, psychology, criminal justice, or a similar field
  • strong communication skills,
  • ability to work well with other professionals,
  • administrative, management and social work experience
  • knowledge of child development and trauma
  • knowledge of child protection, police, and court system,
  • preference will be given to candidates who have training and experience in child forensic interview and who are bilingual.
  • Must be able to pass a nationwide background check.

Desired Qualifications:

  • strong clinical, advocacy, human relations, organization and leadership skills,
  • experience in child maltreatment, crisis intervention, child development, forensic interviewing, the criminal justice system, social work or related areas,
  • knowledge of community resources and how to access services
  • independent worker who takes initiative
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • must be able to work under high levels of stress
  • Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.

Role: The Forensic Interviewer is responsible for conducting unbiased, neutral, non-leading, culturally sensitive fact finding forensic interviews with children who may have experienced alleged abuse or are witnesses to alleged abuse or violence. This position conducts pre-staffing meetings with investigators, participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) staffing and training, weekly case review, and enters case information into a data tracking system. This position reports to the CAC Program Director.

Duties:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews of alleged child sexual abuse and physical abuse victims, utilizing a national protocol in forensic interviewing,
  • document all interviews conducted,
  • maintain reports on the child’s name, age, date of interview conducted, whether a disclosure took place and a brief summary of the child’s disclosure,
  • enter all children, who are interviewed or discussed at case review meetings, into agency case tracking software. Information included, but limited to, demographic information about the child, legal proceedings and their outcomes, law enforcement and social services dispositions and mental health referrals,
  • testify in court proceedings, as necessary,
  • maintain strict standards of confidentiality,
  • participate in Multidisciplinary team case review meetings,
  • participate in peer review and trainings that comply with standards of accreditation,
  • educate team members, as needed, regarding child interviews,
  • attend professional conferences and workshops, when appropriate, for professional growth; at least 40 hours of on-going training per year,
  • remain up to date on current research in the field of forensic interviewing,
  • adherence to the APSAC (American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children) Code of Ethics, and
  • other duties as assigned.
