REQUIRMENTS:
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to young children

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be familiar with DHS Licensing Code Chapter 441-109 requirements.
- Complete the required continuing education as required each year by Iowa Department of Human Services.
- Attend Staff Meetings and participate in staff development activities
- Communicate thoroughly with parents
- Assist children with feeding, toileting, and personal care as appropriate
- Supervise children’s activities, including participating in group activities, enforcing safety practices, and intervening in a positive manner when children are likely to injure themselves or others.
- Understand and use positive discipline policy
- Observe, record, and report individual children’s behavior and also the behavior of the group.
- Assist individual children who experience difficulty in the group with a positive approach.
- Have a positive attitude
- Create and maintain environments that provide choices and a variety that are appropriate to children’s developmental potential.
- Become familiar with playground rules, center routines, and policies
- Assist the Lead Teacher in record keeping with meals/snacks, attendance, and lunch counts.
- Take initiative
- Report and remove potential hazards both in the classroom and outside on the playground. Enlist the help of the children whenever possible.
- Provide assistance to the center director and assistant director when needed.
