Definition of Classification:

Under supervision of the Child Nutrition Coordinator and the Quality Experience Manager, the Child Nutrition Worker is responsible for working knowledge of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements for Infants- School Age and Community Care Licensing (CCL) regulations related to mealtime. This position will be responsible for: 1) Preparing and distributing appealing, nutritionally balanced meals for CAPC students including Infants – School Age as necessary for assigned sites & in accordance with the CACFP; 2) Support with logistics of receiving, sorting and assisting with delivery of ready-made meals and snacks for assigned sites & in accordance with CACFP regulations; and 3) Support with inventory control of food related items in accordance with CACFP regulations.

The Child Nutrition Worker will possess & maintain a Food Handler Certificate, following all guidelines set forth by Community Care Licensing, USDA National Breakfast & Lunch School Program and CACFP guidelines.


Description of Duties:

General:

1. Represent the agency in a consistently professional manner, always modeling a commitment to the agency’s vision, mission, and values.

2. Promote and maintain a sense of teamwork between Early Education Services, other CAPC staff, volunteers, Board members, and other individuals relevant to the successful operation of each program.

3. Develop and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with other stakeholders to ensure support of the agency’s vision, mission, and values.

4. Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, parents, children, and community members.

5. Maintain compliance and knowledge of all CAPC Policies and Procedures, funding and regulatory rules, and laws that apply to the program contracts and oversight agencies.

6. Consistently model an expectation for strengths-based services and a commitment to a collaborative and positive work environment.


Program Specific:

1. Under supervision of the Child Nutrition Coordinator and the Quality Experience Manager, plans, prepares, and serves and/or distributes appealing and nutritionally balanced meals for the children that achieve all requirements set forth by CACFP.

2. Support with receiving, and distribution and/or coordination of distribution of food and supplies, as necessary. Assists with resolving problems related to food delivery/distribution to minimize impact to the classrooms.

3. Promote and reinforce good nutritional habits, implementing the use of new foods, portion control and a balanced diet consistent with CACFP guidelines.

4. Maintain high standards of quality food production and portion control using standard recipes and for appropriate quantities of food needed to meet CACFP menu requirements.

5. Adhere to ingredients, measurements and cooking methods as stated on the recipes to meet the nutritional requirements as outlined by CACFP.

6. Ensure that food supplies are securely and safely stored. Maintain working knowledge of all CACFP, CCL and other governance regulations in this regard.

7. Be familiar with and meet Title 22 sanitation requirements, including but not limited to:

a. Wearing proper cooking attire (i.e. apron, hat or hair net, gloves, etc.).

b. Instructing others to wear proper attire during food handling.

c. Using proper dish washing methods.

d. Ensuring that all kitchen, cooking-related areas and equipment are always clean and in good working order.

e. Cleaning kitchen areas after each meal is prepared.

8. Alert the Child Nutrition Coordinator to maintenance requests asking for unsafe equipment to be removed and/or assistance with cleaning difficult to clean food preparation areas.

9. Perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as sweeping, light mopping, maintaining refrigerators, freezers, and food storage areas, properly washing, and sorting dishes, and keeping kitchen & records in a neat and clean order.

10. Support with maintenance of refrigerators and freezers (including but not limited to):

a. Organization of food by date.

b. Cleanliness and sanitation; internal and external

c. Ensures that the temperatures are within the Food Safety Guidelines


Perform administrative tasks:

1. Respond to emails and voicemails in a timely manner.

2. Assist with maintaining systems for inventory control, cost optimization and other related areas of the food program.

3. Maintain record keeping related to food program inventory, meal distribution, etc. consistent with CACFP regulations and CAPC expectations.

Build and maintain working relationships:

1. Attend staff training as necessary or required.

2. Attend appropriate staff meetings as assigned.

3. Collaborate regularly with ECE Management team to understand food needs of enrolled children. Implement effective strategies to provide alternative meal selections for children with allergies, religious accommodations, etc.

4. Work collaboratively with ECE Management to identify inventory needs, meal distribution plans, etc.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: A minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Experience: Food Service and/or inventory of merchandise knowledge preferred.

Ability to: Gather and analyze data; organize and write reports, read, understand, interpret, and apply pertinent rules and regulations; express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain working relationships with others; present oneself professionally. Take initiative but also accept direction and seek guidance appropriately.

Technical Skills: Basic computer skills to include MS Outlook and Internet usage. Must be able to interpret and follow a recipe and be able to produce monthly menus using CACFP guidelines.

Interpersonal Skills & Communication: The employee must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with co-workers in a compassionate, non- discriminatory, non judgmental manner.
