Purpose:
This person is responsible for seeing that the center is a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment for each child, where self-concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged, individuality respected, and a love of God and His Church is fostered. The Teacher reports to the Afternoon Supervisor, the Assistant Director and the Director.
Qualifications:
· Certificate or degree in child development/nursery/kindergarten education or certificate in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood.
· Experience in an early childhood center or nursery school is desired.
· This person also demonstrates leadership ability and must have supervisory skills with the staff.
· This person shows an ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
· This person shows evidence of emotional maturity and stability and have sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations.
· This person must have physical stamina.
· This person has knowledge of the developmental level of the children in the center, and they use this knowledge in their interaction with the children and their construction of lesson plans.

Key Responsibilities:
· To provide leadership and stability for the program.
· To supervise and be responsible for the total program offered to the children, curriculum, staff-child interaction, staff-parent interaction, health and safety needs and public relations of the center.
· To offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of both the individual child and of the group.
· To interact with the children and to encourage their involvement.
· To be responsible for establishing a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, one that encourages the child to grow and explore.
· Under the supervision of the director, to plan, or supervise the planning of weekly lesson plans based on the developmental needs of the children.
· To supervise and train staff.
· To be responsible for maintaining good communications with parents through parent conferences a minimum of twice a year, and on a daily informal basis.
· To observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior.
· To keep assigned records on attendance, health and nutrition.
· To use appropriate and positive behavior guidance and to help to train staff so that the behavior guidance is consistent.
· To be aware of and follow program goals.
· To report suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect.
· To be able to intelligently answer all questions about the center.
· To be able to speak publicly about the center, Child Care and child development.
· To participate in all recommended training programs, conferences, courses, workshops and other areas of professional growth as described in DHS-MN Rule 245A.40.
· To be responsible for the housekeeping duties, making sure they are maintained.
· To assume the duties of being in charge when needed.
· Any other assigned duties relevant to the needs of the program.
