Definition
General knowledge of basic first aid; some knowledge of child behavior; ability to lift children with physical disabilities correctly; ability to deal effectively with school officials, teachers, parents and working associates; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability and willingness to care for the personal sanitary needs of children with physical disabilities; dependability.
Examples of Work

• Assists student on and off buses.
• Lifts students in and out of wheelchairs and in and out of bus seats.
• Pushes wheelchairs onto and off bus lifts and holds on to chair while operating lift.
• Fastens students into seat belts and wheelchair fasteners on board the bus.
• Monitors students and attends to their needs while on school bus.
• Assists in toileting children with physical disabilities.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment and areas used by children with physical disabilities.
• May after appropriate training by Columbus Public Schools profession medical personnel, perform catheterizations and change bricker bags of students.
• May, after appropriate training by physical and/or occupational therapists, adjust prone boards, and position on and remove students from the prone boards.
• Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade and one (1) year of experience in maintaining control of and teaching appropriate behavior to emotionally disturbed children and adolescentsin residential or non-residential programs and facilities or one (1) year as a Child Care Attendant with the Columbus Public Schools or comparable experience elsewhere.
Substitution(s): An associate's degree in mental health/chemical dependency and mental retardation technology or equivalent may be substituted for the required experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
