Job description

Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP) offers high quality early care and Youth services in center-based (birth - five), facility-based (age 5-12), and recreational environments (teen; youth sports and fitness). The Training and Curriculum Specialist facilitates learning and professional development of CYP employees including new hire orientation; ensuring The Creative Curriculum is implemented; and works across all CYP components.Qualifications:

Knowledge, skill and ability to assist managing mentally appropriate program for the age groups served.

Knowledge and background of Child and Youth Program including principles, practices and techniques of Child and Youth development.

Knowledge of the federal and state laws governing the detection and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect.

Knowledge of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Council on Accreditation (COA), and National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) accreditation criteria and processes, as well as the required programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and 4-H, and the skills and knowledge to implement the Department of Defense (DoD) certification standards.

Knowledge of how to identify the interests and motivations of individuals and groups.

Skill in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of programs.

Skill in developing curriculum outlines, training outlines, courses of study, and lesson plans and guides.

Ability to conduct training workshops.

Ability to provide guidance and leadership to employees and providers.

Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations (e.g., evacuations, child illnesses, individuals with physical and emotional disorders).

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, as well as possess strong interpersonal communication skills.

Education:

A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School-Age (MSA) credential or equivalent and 3 years of experience where the incumbent displays knowledge of a competency in developmentally appropriate programming.

OR

A 2 year degree in Early Childhood education (ECE), Child Development or related field of study, which includes Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with an emphasis in Human Development or other degrees as appropriate AND 2 years of full time experience working with children and Youth.

OR

A 4 year degree in the above fields of study AND a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children and Youth.

Note: A minimum 2 year degree if preferred.
Note: A copy of your H.S. diploma, GED, or college transcripts (showing degree awarded/conferred) MUST be submitted when applying. If your degree has not been awarded you MUST also provide a copy of your HS Diploma or equivalent.
