Mission for Position
Recruiting a dynamic nursing leader to join our Operations and Planning team. The Chief Nursing Officer provides leadership, direction, and administration of activities relating to patient care, nursing practice, nursing education, and clinical development across the health system to ensure our patients receive quality, compassionate care every time.
About the Operations & Planning Team
Lakewood’s executive team, the Operations and Planning Team, is comprised of division leaders who strategically advance Lakewood’s mission of providing quality, personalized healthcare for a lifetime through expansion of services, elevation of care models, development of key partnerships, investment in the employee experience and more. Under the new CEO’s leadership, the Operations and Planning team is driving the success of Lakewood’s next chapter of empowering health and well-being together.
Position Summary
Strategic Priority: Achieve Clinical and Operational Excellence
  • Actively contribute to the development and execution of the system-wide strategic plan.
  • Direct system-wide quality, safety and process improvements, in alignment with system-wide strategic plan and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure patient care meets industry best practices, regulatory standards, nursing practice standards, in collaboration with nursing leaders.
  • Monitor, review and evaluate care delivery system to asses quality, patient experience, and alignment with organizational strategic plan.
  • Lead quality improvement team to contribute data, analysis and strategic initiatives to the system-wide strategic planning committee.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration on population health initiatives related to payor relationships, managed care contracts, and shared savings contracts.
  • Collaborate with CFO and nursing leadership to plan for the budgeting requirements of personnel, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain and monitor required licensure and regulatory compliance within CAH Nursing, including action planning and accountability for any deficiencies cited within the designated time frame.

People Priority: Foster Growth & Development
  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team with a focus on elevating relationships and ensuring optimal organizational effectiveness and strategic market positioning.
  • Actively participate in nursing governance body, medical staff, Peer Review, and any other groups involved in the system’s decision-making process.
  • Hire and develop leaders and nurses who effectively prioritize time, empower one another, and hold themselves and others accountable for quality, safety and satisfaction outcomes.
  • Support and guide the hiring, onboarding, evaluation and professional development and advancement of nurses system-wide.
  • Lead change effectively following principles of change theory.
  • Provide clarity for nursing leadership expectations, and mentorship that fosters professional growth towards those expectations.
  • Provide expertise in problem-solving or addressing concerns/issues from customers, staff and stakeholders.
  • Promote collaborative relationships within the system and outside of the system to improve patient outcomes including establishing strong Provider relationships.
  • Provide expertise on state, local and federal regulations and initiatives concerning health care delivery, safety, quality and CAH regulatory compliance (Stratis Health, IHI, Regulatory entities, MDH).

Operations Priority: Day to Day Activity
  • Participate in the administrative on-call coverage
  • Round with patients, staff and leaders to enhance alignment, improve communication, and oversee operations.
  • Review and approve nursing policies, standards of patient care, treatment and services.
  • Maintain nursing practice competency and live out Standards of Behavioral Excellence

Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in applicable field from an approved/accredited university/college required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing operations and leadership experience and success within acute care/hospital setting required.
  • Current Minnesota RN license in good standing with MN Board of Nursing.
  • Experience in measuring quality indicators that translate to quantifiable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated successful fiscal/budget experience, business development and growth in services.
