Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the development and oversight of the financial strategy, financial condition, and financial position of Vibrant Credit Union. This individual will protect the revenues of the credit union, assist in sustainable growth initiatives, and maximize returns to members. Key responsibilities include making recommendations for budget preparation, income forecasts, and operational changes. Additionally, they will ensure the accounting and recordkeeping activities of the credit union meet generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and all other state and federal regulations. The CFO holds a substantial role in the overall leadership, strategic planning, and management of the credit union.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and expand the financial strategy to strengthen the financial capacity of the credit union.
- Review the credit union's financial conditions and financial position to recommend viable alternatives for cost-effective operation.
- Oversee the asset liability management and the fund management program.
- Manage the overall balance sheet to maintain within all policy limits and risk appetite set by the board of directors.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the implementation of effective accounting and financial administration policies, procedures, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with credit union financial policy for sound financial management and control.
- Implement policies and procedures related to financial management, accounting, and budget planning to improve the overall operations.
- Ensure the achievement of revenue targets for interest income and off-balance sheet earnings.
- Ensure adherence to policies for control of assets and expenses.
- Prepare, present, and interpret financial reports to management, board of directors, and government authorities.
- Direct & supervise the preparation of all fiscal reporting.
- Oversee execution of investment strategies and documentation of rationale for each investment decision with an audit/regulatory focus.
- Review the findings and recommendations made by internal & external auditors.
- Meet the requirements of the regulatory authority regarding internal control, compliance, and internal audit.
- Serve as a member of the credit union's senior management team and build a strong financial discipline and accountability foundation.
- Lead the annual business plan and budget process while actively participating in the overall strategic planning for the credit union.
- Serve as the executive sponsor of the Management Asset Liability Committee (MALCO) and prepare/present to Asset Liability Committee (ALCO).
- Develop and mentor directly reporting employees and cultivate strong working relationships to build trust among team members.
- Lead the Capital Markets Committee driving additional portfolio revenue and liabilities opportunities.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business. CPA or MBA preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.
- 15+ years of senior financial management experience at a credit union or other financial institution
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, government regulators, board of directors, and executive leadership.
- Ability to influence the strategic direction of the organization.
- Excellent organization, prioritization, analytical, and problem-solving skills to effectively oversee areas of responsibility and attain organizational goals.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems or situations requiring broad-based solutions impacting areas outside of immediate responsibility.
Environmental and Physical Activity Requirements:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The daily responsibilities of this position constantly require effective talking, hearing, walking, finger dexterity, reaching, stooping, and grasping functions. The position also often requires reaching and lifting (up to 25 pounds). Frequent sitting, standing, and repetitive motion activities are also required. Must be able to read print and computer-based materials and to do so with consistent accuracy. Most of these functions require light physical exertion and are conducted indoors at controlled degrees of temperature.
