Job Description:
Position: Chief Finance Officer
Reporting to: President, Client Services; Art and Wellness Enterprises.
Location: Bentonville, AR
Art and Wellness Enterprises (AWE) is seeking a skilled, highly motivated, and entrepreneurial individual to join the team as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
As a support organization, AWE serves the operating non-profits founded by Alice L. Walton, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Momentary, Art Bridges Foundation, the Alice L. Walton Foundation, Heartland Whole Health Institute, and Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. Its mission is to serve and support each organization through providing shared efficiencies that help each entity achieve its mission as a world-class institution.
The CFO will be responsible for all aspects of the financial and accounting operations of AWE as well as the organizations it services, guiding the financial strategy, planning, and maintaining fiscal stability. As a member of the AWE leadership team, this role will collaborate with the executive team(s) to support overall mission and strategy while establishing long-range goals strategies, plans, and policies of the organization.
About the Position:
AWE is looking for a well-rounded accounting and finance professional with proven strategic and leadership capabilities to develop and manage these functions. The ideal CFO will have a strong financial systems background and demonstrated track record of building and leading high-performing teams, defining and updating processes, maintaining complete, accurate and timely books, as well as developing data integrity and reporting capabilities. As a member of the leadership team, the successful candidate must be comfortable in a role that requires clear communication and presentation skills.
What you will do:
The CFO will set the strategic vision for all financial aspects of AWE and related entities, working closely with the leadership team at AWE and the heads of each of the organizations that it supports. This role will develop long- and short-term goals and objectives to carry the organizations through each accounting cycle in alignment with established policies and strategic plans.
Policies, Procedures and Systems

  • Assess, develop, and implement policies, processes, and procedures to create a defined and sustainable financial infrastructure, built to support future growth.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls to safeguard the integrity and security of critical data/functions.
  • Review/assess existing accounting and finance systems and recommend improvements to meet current and future needs.

Budget Process
  • Spearhead the annual budget process for each organization utilizing a rigorous review of strategic and operational plans, current spending as well as assessments of the organization's future needs as it evolves to meet requirements.
  • Prepare and present budgets to stakeholders for approval with a key focus on organizational metrics and overarching goals.

FP&A
  • Develop the infrastructure to provide best-in-class financial analyses, modeling, projections, and ad hoc reports for project and planning initiatives.
  • Strategically interpret financial information and data to facilitate decision making.

Accounting and Reporting
  • Complete accurate and timely accounting records and financial reports for all entities.
  • Compile and communicate financial information for sharing with each organization on no less than a quarterly basis.
  • Design and manage efficient accounting and financial systems to track and provide reporting on numerous and varied assets and entities.
  • Prepare financial analysis and proformas as needed.
  • Oversee the annual audit for entities currently requiring an audit.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements based on GAAP for nonprofit fund-based accounting.
  • Oversee endowment level reporting.
  • Prepare high level reporting for stakeholder needs including industry benchmarking and other key performance indicators.

Team and Relationship Management
  • Foster a high performance, collaborative environment in which quality goals are met. Promote transparent communication, trust, cooperation, and mutual respect for all.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key metrics.
  • Collaborate across the organization on key strategic initiatives that require finance and accounting input.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Oversee financial processing of transactions for AWE and the organizations it supports, including AP/AR functions.
  • Oversee Procurement and Contract Management processes.
  • Partner with the Tax and Legal teams to optimize tax strategies for all individuals and entities and ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all tax returns by the Tax Team.
  • Oversee the accurate reporting of investment and endowment accounts.
  • Oversee treasury functions and banking relationships.
  • Serve as an advocate and liaison with advisors, vendors, and partners, and proactively coordinate with all to ensure that needs and objectives are met.

Qualifications required for your success:
The successful candidate will be a strategic professional with a successful track record in accounting and finance. The individual will have energy, intellectual capacity, strategic business acumen and professional integrity. The ideal background will include:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in accounting and finance. Big 4 experience is preferred. A mix of for profit and nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree, with a strong preference in accounting or finance.
  • CPA required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years managing a team of finance/accounting professionals.
  • Strong technical background with a high level of proficiency in critical software (Microsoft Office, web-based reporting, etc.). Direct experience working with a major ERP system. Experience with Workday preferred.
