Job description

As the Chief Engineer you will be responsible for maintaining the entire HGVC facility, including the grounds, waterways, physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and related equipment in accordance with the energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. Ensures the upkeep of the guest and team members areas to maintain an attractive and safe property. Manage all rehabilitation, expansion, and special projects. Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Good understanding of brand standards and local codes to keep the resorts guideline
  • Hands-on and conducts a regular walk-through to visually assess the physical structure(s) of the building. The assessments are to determine the level of safety, efficient maintenance, and operation of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and any other related equipment
  • Schedule, coordinate, and inspect all rooms-related Preventative Maintenance, rooms' refurbishment, and public area projects daily basis. Maintains effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs, conducting special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy at the property.
  • Maintenance and repairs of all irrigation pumps and motors including all pools and fountain waterfalls
  • Assigns and verifies completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, guest rooms, outlets, back of the house spaces, and grounds. Also repairs, replacement, and renovation projects to offices and employee work areas.
  • Ensures that the condition and safety of the property meet QA Brand Standards and takes corrective action on any feedback given by the QA Auditor through the Brand Compliance Report and Improvement Planner
  • Adheres to all corporate required purchasing policies and controls to include all outside contractor bids, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ensure the accurate completion of team member work schedules and performance appraisals. Monitors payroll hours and reports.
  • Informs the General Manager and other department managers, on a regular basis, regarding the specific and overall condition of the building, structure(s), related systems, and equipment offering prudent, and cost-effective proposals for maintaining the same
  • Clearly define, assign, and delegate responsibility, authority, the realistic strategic business plan that defines operational goals and profitability objectives for the operation of the various sub-departments under their supervision; conduct regularly held meetings with each direct report follow-up on expectations, gather feedback, communicate changes and new initiatives on the resort.
  • Be familiarized, maintain, and ready to implement Emergency Response Plans. Immediately available to work with the property in the event of any emergency which necessitates the skills and expertise of the Chief Engineer (such emergencies may include, but not be limited to, fires, power or other equipment failures, floods, lighting, earthquake, hurricanes, or other disasters of similar nature and magnitude)
  • Has the equipment and training necessary to computerize the building information and provide reports as requested.
  • Maintains an appropriate supply of materials and equipment to conduct the normal day-to-day operating and maintenance requirements.
  • Maintains organized and efficient administrative and filling systems within Engineering for the timely and accurate handling of correspondence, reports, requisitions for purchase, and other administrative requirements of the department
  • Maintains a well-defined, and organized system within the shop for the inventory, maintenance, and storage of all tools, products, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the required activities of the department
  • Ensure proper use, storage, and labeling of all hazardous chemicals used by engineering team members, in accordance with state and federal laws. Ensure the facility meets all OSHA Safety Requirements and provides appropriate PPE for Team Members.
  • May be required to perform other reasonable duties as requested by management

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 5-7 years of related experience in property operations
  • 3-4 years of management experience
  • Ability to write and speak English to comprehend and communicate job functions to engineering staff
  • Able to work flexible schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays

It would be helpful in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • BA/BS/Bachelor's degree
  • HVAC Certification, Trades Certification
