WEST TN PBS WLJT-TV CHIEF ENGINEER OPENING
Position is open until filled.
Description: Responsible for all broadcast and production engineering services for West TN PBS WLJT-TV, maintaining a full power transmitter and a microwave relay translator site, master control facilities, and studio facility. Responsible for all maintenance, testing, modification, documentation, and supervision of the technical operation in compliance with all FCC rules and regulations.
This position will also be involved and responsible for camera setup/shading/maintenance of the station’s mobile production truck for on-location productions. Serve as West TN PBS technical advisor to the President & CEO and management staff of changes in technology. Serve as West TN PBS’ FCC designated Chief Operator.
Full time position with benefits; Exempt status.
Required:
• 5 years of station-level broadcast television engineering experience. Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and professional work experience.
• Extensive knowledge of broadcast electronics, RF broadcast operations, legacy video technology, digital delivery systems, automation systems, technical systems design and component-level repair and troubleshooting.
• Previous experience in a multiple-location television station operation including running multiple digital subchannels.
• Strong computer experience, including setting up interoffice systems, editing programs and content playout systems.
• Knowledge of multiple-platform delivery systems for content streaming.
• Experience working with network and syndication partners in the delivery of programming.
• Experience with setting up, managing, and maintaining IT systems.
• Knowledge of FCC rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent judgment and ability to diagnose, problem solve and handle complex issues under pressure or in emergency situations.
• Experience establishing engineering policies and procedures and maintaining equipment inventory.
• Excellent verbal communications and written skills with the ability to research, design and document procedures, workflows, and processes.
• Ability to supervise staff and contractors effectively.
• Ability to work in an on-call environment and with a flexible schedule, including extended hours on occasion at night or weekends.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry short distances.
• Able to manage budget and prepare bids.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and be responsible for any required driving endorsements that maybe needed for station vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in television, broadcasting, engineering, or a related field.
• Resourceful approach to engineering and equipment procurement.
• Experience managing complex technical projects.
• Able to supervise and train staff in the use of equipment.
• Self-starter and able to work with little or moderate supervision.
