CHIEF ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
POSITION DESCRIPTION
As a Chief Electrical Engineer, you will be expected to work closely with MEPIS clients (both internal and external) on various size projects. You will be expected to deliver high quality, high-profile, projects to our clients. You will also actively participate in the full project cycle, from the pre-programming phase through final construction and close-out. Duties will include, but not be limited to, perform electrical engineering assignments with clear and specified objective and involving conventional types of plans and specifications. Design power distribution lighting, communications and control systems. Perform design calculations and prepare equipment or material specifications. Manage electrical team staff. Although the position is for a Chief Electrical Engineer, you will be expected to work closely with our Senior Mechanical and Senior Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineers to help in this discipline at all levels.
Your project responsibilities shall include the following:
- Project Management – including scope, scheduling and budgeting
- Modeling and Analysis of all aspects of the electrical systems
- Provide Technical Leadership to MEPIS Staff
- Review of Electrical systems designed by others, interface with code official and contractors, working with Architects and Clients
- Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to Architects, Contractors and building Owners
- Development of initial electrical system concepts
- Design of electrical systems
- Calculations of preliminary HVAC systems
- Develop project specification
- Survey and evaluation of existing conditions
- Construction Administration
- Assist in developing proposals and estimates for project bids
- Experience with both design and analysis (e.g. Arc Flash Analyses, Load Studies) preferred
- Ability to work and coordinate with Department Head to meet project goals
- Ability to visit on-site field survey and/or meet with clients required
- Ability to assist in managing major projects and oversee smaller ones by junior engineers
- Ability to coordinate with other major trades (Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection)
- Project management experience preferred
- Ability to assist in developing proposals and estimates for project bids
- Ability to assist in developing marketing materials as necessary for proposal submittals
- Ability to interpret and understand the NEC/NESC and other relevant codes & standards
- Ability to interpret and understand IESNA recommendations for lighting
Software Proficiencies
- Recent AutoCAD (2010 and beyond) required
- Microsoft Office Suite Programs required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with SKM or similar Power Analysis Software preferred; must be able to perform or oversee analyses (e.g. arc flash studies)
- Revit experience preferred
- AGI32 or similar photometric software experience is desirable; ability to learn it as required
- Will consider additional industry software proficiencies where relevant
THE IDEAL APPLICANT WILL FULFILL THE BELOW CRITERIA:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical design & analysis of building systems and campuses
- Experienced with the Chicago Electrical Code is required
- Understanding of power, lighting, fire alarm and telecommunication systems in their design and implementation
- Experience with both design and analysis (e.g. Arc Flash Analyses, Load Studies) preferred
- PE license strongly preferred
- Ability to visit on-site for field surveys is required
- Manage major projects and oversee smaller ones by junior engineers
- Coordinate with other major trades (Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection)
- Attend client meetings and maintain ongoing contact to project completion
- Experience with higher education, medical facilities, or other complex facilities is preferred
- Project management experience strongly preferred
- Ability to write proposals and develop estimates for project bids
- Interpret and understand the NEC/NESC and other relevant codes & standards
- Interpret and understand IESNA recommendations for lighting
