Bi-weekly Salary: $2,729.00 - $2,996.93
The Del Norte County District Attorney Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one (1) vacancy for the position of Chief District Attorney Investigator. This position is classified as full-time.
Under limited supervision performs a wide variety of tasks associated with criminal and civil investigations conducted by the District Attorney's Office. This is a responsible investigative position performing various support functions related to criminal and civil prosecution. This work consists of professional duties at an entry-level classification. This classification is non-exempt under the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
The Chief District Attorney's Investigator is the supervisory level classification in the DA Investigator series. This position plans, directs, organizes, coordinates and participates in the daily operations of the investigations division of the District Attorney's Office.
Detailed Work Activities
Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.   • Supervises and performs criminal and civil investigations conducted by the District Attorney's Office.
  • Plans, schedules, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of staff.
  • Selects staff and provides for their training and professional development.
  • Develops, communicates, and monitors policies, procedures and standards for the department; recommends and implements improvement when necessary.
  • Interviews suspects, witnesses, and other relevant parties to obtain information required for prosecutions.
  • Compiles and analyzes evidence and information to obtain an accurate account of the events, participants, and properties involved in an assigned case.
  • Photographs crime scenes and evidence related to criminal cases.
  • Confers with law enforcement agencies in investigation and networking activities.
  • Performs various support function related to departmental operations and activities.
  • Reviews files to check for prior felony arrests or convictions.
  • Compiles various statistics for departmental and interagency use.
  • Prepares prosecution's evidence for presentation in the courtroom
  • Assists in scheduling prosecution witnesses.
  • Writes various reports related to assigned cases.
  • Testifies in court in connection criminal prosecutions and civil matters.
  • Reviews a variety of journals and government publications to keep abreast of new and/or changing laws, techniques and regulations related to criminal investigations.
  • Performs related duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of GED certificate, supplemented with course work in Police Science or closely related field equivalent to an Associates Degree; and possession of POST Advanced Certificate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires:
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Possession of POST Advanced Certificate.
Knowledge of:
  • The principles and techniques of proper criminal and/or civil investigations.
  • Administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program and budget development and implementation and employee supervision.
Ability to:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Deal effectively with private and public agencies to obtain needed information.
  • Train and develop staff, including perform necessary performance evaluations.
  • Draw accurate and interpretable diagrams.
  • Operate photographic equipment used in crime scene photography.
  • Meet state standards for peace office status.

Selection Process:

Condition of Employment:

Disaster Service Workers: All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
