Position Overview:
Chemo infusion Provides clinical support to all providers, the clinical staff and patients of the Oncology Service line. The Nurse Educator is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the orientation process for Oncology nurses as well as the continuing education for staff.
What you'll do:
  • Administer chemotherapy and/or biotherapy per MD orders
  • Perform checks on treatment orders
  • Provide patient specific education
  • Obtain vital signs, Assess lab results
  • Utilize multidisciplinary team to address patient specific needs
  • Confirm dosing based on most recent labs/weight
  • Check Medication with second RN or pharmacy
  • Monitor for adverse effects or infusion related reactions and respond appropriately
  • Confirm appropriate regiment for specific disease process
  • Review previous treatment notes and recent provider notes
  • Confirm what labs need to be review prior to treatment
  • Chemotherapy drug teaching
  • Regimen treatment plans and schedule
  • Management of side effects and proper self-care while undergoing treatment
  • Coordinate and oversee orientation process including the planning and evaluation of all new Oncology nurses, and provide written updates at 30 day and 60 day intervals in preparation for 90 day introductory evaluation.
  • Maintain educational documentation and checklists on all oncology nurses in preparation for Joint Commission/DOH surveys and CoC surveys.
  • Educate and update staff on policy changes, new equipment, and process changes within the department and the organization on average one day per week.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates of applied science of nursing from accredited institution.
  • NYS RN licensure
  • Minimum of 1-year med/surg nursing experience preferred
  • Oncology Nursing Society chemotherapy/biotherapy provider card within 6 months of employment.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification required within 2 years of employment. Continuing education as required to maintain specialty certification.

Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
