SUMMARY:


The Chemical Plant Operator/Mechanic is a skilled industrial manufacturing professional responsible for both mechanical and production aspects including, but not limited to, basic repairs, preventative/routine maintenance, training, and manufacturing. This professional must ensure individual and team results within a small, highly collaborative, and results-oriented team including Chemical Operators, Mid-Level Supervisors, Engineers, Laboratory staff, and high-level leadership. This professional is required to work on the manufacturing floor wearing required PPE providing subject matter expertise and troubleshooting with the ability to execute process and use manufacturing equipment to support the overall operation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate mechanical tendencies to troubleshoot and perform basic equipment repairs to minimize production down-time, conduct root cause analysis, identifying, and implementing permanent solutions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA safety requirements to support a safe work culture; execute and role model safe work practices.
  • Ability to train and mentor new hires/less experienced staff regarding safety, compliance and/or production processes/programs. • Operate, monitor, and control plant systems; visually inspect, prepare/monitor equipment, and process conditions; make system adjustments as needed to ensure optimal equipment operation and process efficiency.
  • Review and analyze charts, reports, and/or logs to identify potential or actual process/equipment issues.
  • Ability to perform basic in-process laboratory testing methods to determine the “health” of the production, equipment and/or products.
  • Safely and efficiently operate a forklift, mobile, and/or other heavy equipment to ensure successful deployment of materials, equipment, supplies, product, etc.
  • Maintain housekeeping requirements/clean all work areas as assigned including compliance with all signage, SDS requirements, 5s specifications, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve processes, assess risk, identify root cause, resolve production obstacles, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintaining, calibrating, and/or operating production/facility equipment, collecting data, sampling, shipping, receiving, transporting materials, cleaning work areas, labeling containers, supporting inventory including cycle counts, etc.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, division, multiplication); as well as the ability to use formulas to manage process.
Requirements:
  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred Associate, or higher, post-secondary degree, or Technical School Certificate with preferably 2 semesters of Chemistry.
  • Without Degree: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment; preferably with at least 2 years in a Chemical, Wastewater, or Refining environment.
  • With Degree/Certificate: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment; preferably with at least 1-3 years in a Chemical, Wastewater, or Refining environment.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM), or other regulatory (FDA, EPA, etc.) experience a plus.
  • Experience maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting industrial equipment/machinery.
  • 3-4 years’ experience using various hand-tools, welding, performing maintenance, reading/executing equipment builds using Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), and complying with OSHA requirements associated with routing/preventative maintenance programs, and inspections/audits in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • 1-year experience safely operating forklift, scissor lift, hoists, cranes, pallet jacks, and/or other similar equipment in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with material/chemical handling, storage, and compatibilities.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and leverage new computer systems and software applications such as SAP or other ERP solutions in order to accurately report/trend data, track work time, etc.
  • Experience reading and interpreting Schematics, Pipe & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Standard Operating Procedures, Manufactures’ Literature, Safety Requirements, General Instructions; ability to detect process deviations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required; additional language skills/bi-lingual (a plus).
  • Identification that establishes the right to work in the United States; identification that establishes identity.
  • OSHA Certification and/or HAZWOPER certification (e.g., OSHA 10, OSHA 40, etc.) a plus
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience or certification (e.g., Yellow Belt, Green Belt, etc.) a plus
