Chemical Lab Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Chemical Lab Tech                                 

Position Summary

Provides support to the laboratory by performing chemical analyses of production materials.

Essential Functions

·         Perform routine sample preparation and analysis of incoming and in-process materials, including approval/rejection of material based on results of this testing.

·         Perform chemical analysis by using various laboratory instruments, including gravimetric, ICP, and XRF.

·         Perform metallurgical testing as required (i.e., micro-section preparation, hardness, and mechanical property testing such as tensile and resistance) utilizing metallurgical equipment.

·         Provide direct feedback to Metal Casting operations, providing melt charge calculations for heat corrections to meet desired element target objectives.

·         Maintain laboratory records and databases.

·         Maintain good housekeeping and safe work habits in accordance with Lean and 5S

·         Prepare Certificate of Analysis for outgoing material.

·         Support Process Engineering data collection as needed.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., Windows, Excel, PowerPoint) and writing and communication skills.

·         Experience operating laboratory equipment (ICP, XRF).

·         Self-motivated to learn new techniques and instrumentation.

·         Meticulous attention to detail is required.

·         Knowledge and experience with Lean 5S concepts.

·         Safe work attitude.

·         Able to work in a team environment as well as independently.

·         Must be a US Citizen or have permanent resident status in the US.

EDUCATION

·         Associate degree in chemistry or two-plus years working in a manufacturing laboratory. (BA/BS in Natural Science preferred).
