Salary Range
Starting at $70,000 commensurate with education and experience.

Position Summary
The Chemist/Chemical Engineer position will provide support to Department of Defense (DoD) and (United States Government) USG sponsored projects over a capability area centered on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and/or Nuclear (CBRN) defense. This position will provide direct support for NSRI/UNL collaborative research programs. Responsibilities will include facilitation of projects focused on conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of new products and processes for electrochemical sensors.
This position is funded by a 1-year contract. Follow-on employment will be contingent on contract renewal. Primary place of duty will be Lincoln, NE. Occasional travel (up to 10%) may be required depending on project needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory experiments to support research initiatives
  • Develop test methods and experimental design for assigned tasks.
  • Use and maintain appropriate lab equipment required for research and development activities.
  • Maintain specifications, test reports, and general documentation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise with regards to project task execution.
  • Provide laboratory support and oversight for project leads on NSRI/UNL collaborative chemical defense related projects.
  • Provide monthly project updates to the project lead.
  • Collaborate directly with team members to develop and execute project plans, timelines, and strategies to facilitate successful completion of project goals.
  • Work with graduate students on assigned tasks.
  • Provide guidance to more junior scientist(s).
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or chemistry from an accredited university or college.
  • 2-5 years experience in Chemical Engineering or chemistry related independent research.
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Excellent organizations skills and record-keeping.
  • Experienced in working as a part of a multi-functional team in a chemical laboratory.
  • Experience working in a university laboratory setting.
  • Ability to make sound scientific and engineering decisions.
  • Dependable with a positive attitude and good attendance.
  • High ethics, integrity, honesty, patience.
  • Energetic, highly motivated, enjoys challenges, and has proven drive to achieve goals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Capillary Electrophoresis.
  • Experience with the SELEX process for aptamers.
  • Experience with electrochemical analysis.
  • Current DoD security clearance.
