This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee.  National Aerospace Solutions is a limited liability company comprised of Bechtel National Inc. (as lead company) and Sierra Lobo Inc. with teaming Subcontractors nLogic Inc. and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.
AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Chemistry Lab Supervisor, this Chemical Analyst position will be responsible for the analyses of drinking water, wastewater, soils, oils, fuels, and industrial hygiene media for the presence of a variety of organic and inorganic analytes utilizing methods prescribed by EPA, AIHA, NIOSH, ASTM and others.
Job Duties:
  • Performs all required instrument calibrations, routine maintenance, and method quality control procedures according to the appropriate method citation
  • Utilizes analytical instrumentation, such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Ion Chromatography, GC/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), and HPLC to determine target analytes or identify unknown materials
  • Modify or create methods to analyze unique sample matrices to meet customer needs
  • Responsible for the entry of all results and quality control parameters into the LIMS
  • Maintain all necessary reagents and supplies
  • Document all steps of analysis, extractions, dilutions, calibrations, and maintenance in accordance with the Chem Lab Quality Assurance Manual
  • Ability to correctly obtain acceptable results on all external performance evaluation samples
  • Ability to accurately formulate analytical calibration standards using volumetric glassware and gravimetric techniques
  • Ability to obtain acceptable results on internal and external challenge samples to document proficiency
  • Occasional travel to vendor training courses for instrument operation and maintenance
  • Cleaning laboratory glassware
  • Support customers’ varying test schedules (laboratory support may be required outside of normal scheduled hours for certain test schedules)
  • May be assigned to work in other areas as directed
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy

Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or related scientific or technical discipline plus a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for some portion of experience.
  • United States Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Hands-on experience utilizing instruments such as Gas Chromatograph, Ion Chromatograph, GC/Mass Spectrometer, and HPLC is needed
  • MS degree in Chemistry with laboratory experience utilizing instruments mentioned above is preferred
  • Prior internship or work experience in a Chemistry lab setting
  • Experience producing satisfactory proficiency test results as part of laboratory accreditation
  • Experience with instrument software such as ChemStation and Mass Hunter
  • Experience with accreditation agency (ex. AIHA, Drinking Water Agency) audit reviews for approved methods
  • Experience with method development and method detection limit studies
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to operate instrumentation, interpret data, and maintain legible written and electronic records
  • Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office including Excel and Access
  • Willingness to learn new areas of analysis as needed
  • Ability to occasionally work flexible hours outside normal shift (<10% of the time)
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic work environment with flexibility to accomplish mission needs
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance; must have ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
