The Estimator at the company plays a crucial role as a member of the leadership team, actively engaging in all Strategic Planning Initiatives. Within the Estimating Department, which currently includes a Chief Estimator, Senior Estimator, Estimator, and Assistant Estimator, the Estimator is dedicated to overseeing the RFQ/RFP/Bid and negotiated ...
work processes. This role involves coordinating the receipt of RFQs, RFPs, and Preliminary Budget requests for negotiated projects, tracking State Opportunities through Procurement websites, and documenting RFQ/RFP/Bid schedules. The Estimator collaborates with management, project executives, and administrative support to ensure efficient response requirements, delegating tasks as needed. Additionally, the Estimator coordinates preparations and practices for all project interviews, working closely with the in-house marketing team and external consultants. Participation in these interviews involves leading discussions on topics related to Preconstruction and Estimating. Beyond project-specific responsibilities, the Estimator attends client development-focused lunches or outings, often organized by Senior Management and Project Executive team leaders. Industry-focused events are also on the agenda, where the Estimator engages to further marketing and development goals while expanding ongoing outreach efforts. To ensure continuous growth and knowledge enhancement, the Estimator actively participates in industry-focused learning seminars, contributing to the department's leadership learning and the overall knowledge base of the company. Additionally, community outreach initiatives are a priority, with the Estimator collaborating with other company management to support community engagement efforts.
Responsibilities:
* The department consists of Estimators and Administrative Assistants dedicated to estimating much of the volume of projects that come in for bids and preliminary budgets.
* Coordinate receipt of drawings, distribution, documentation of bid schedule, distribution of Request for Pricing from subs, creation of estimates. Estimators, Project Managers and Administrative Support to help with follow up calls on outstanding/ongoing bids. Currently we are using Building Connected to facilitate this process.
* Update Bid Tracking Spreadsheet as each bid comes in and distribute this list to Management and Project Executive team leaders every week. Update this list of all results regarding job Wins, Pending, Loss or Cancelled.
* Categorize each bid by E: Education, H: Healthcare, S: Specialty, O: Office. Work with Management and Project Executive team leaders to follow up on pending bids as needed.
* Complete Estimates: Small Projects: Under $250,000.00, (Excel Document)
* Complete Estimates: Typical Projects: Over $250,000.00, (Timberline Program)
* Create and Maintain Master Subcontractor List & Project Type Specific Lists (Currently the company uses Building Connected to keep up with the list).
* Develop sub lists for other areas of Georgia and Southeastern States. The company has started lists for Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee for projects completed in those areas recently.
* Make sure to investigate all other subs working in a building when a site visit is performed. This may include checking competitor???s job sites, driving to other nearby jobsites, etc. This may include calling building engineers to find out past subs that worked in a building. It may mean asking people around our office that may have worked in the building in the past. Leave no stone unturned.
* Strive to have multiple competitive Sub numbers in every job. Utilize resources here more effectively to help you achieve this goal.
* Strive to have the lowest numbers and most complete scope from quality subs.
* Ensure the Estimating Team is working overtime to stay ahead of the deadlines when we have a heavy bid load.
* Details, Details, Details. Make sure estimators NEVER have holes in an estimate at bid time. This is only a result of not putting in the necessary time to analyze the bid ahead of time.
Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Skills:
* Advanced Degree: Bachelor's degree in related field (preferred), with additional certifications or advanced degrees in Estimating, Project Management, or related disciplines.
* Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the construction industry, particularly in the areas of preconstruction, estimating, and project management.
* Bid Management Tools: Familiarity with bid management tools such as Building Connected, Timberline, or similar software.
* Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of safety protocols and industry standards related to construction projects.
* Community Engagement: Experience in community outreach initiatives, supporting the company's commitment to community engagement.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in on-screen take-off and BIM programs for detailed estimates and preliminary budgets.

Qualifications:
* Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage RFQ/RFP/Bid and negotiated work processes efficiently, including coordinating receipt, tracking, and documentation of project requests.
* Estimating Expertise: Strong background in estimating practices, including creating and maintaining bid schedules, managing subcontractor lists, and conducting thorough investigations of potential subcontractors.
* Team Leadership: Experience leading and managing teams, with a focus on coaching and development to ensure optimal performance.
* Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with management, project executives, external consultants, and administrative support.
* Strategic Thinking: Ability to participate in Strategic Planning Initiatives, providing valuable insights and strategic direction to the Estimating Department.
* Marketing and Client Development: Experience in attending client-focused events, lunches, and outings to support client development initiatives and promote the company's brand.
