A Certified Weld Inspector is responsible for verifying that welding processes and welds conform to industry standards, codes, and specifications. They inspect and assess welds for quality, strength, and adherence to safety standards to ensure the structural integrity and reliability of welded components and structures.
Duties/Responsibilities:Perform in-process and final inspections (VT) on welded products and structures according to Bridge Brothers requirements and specifications and/or AWS I EN standards
Must be well-versed in AISC standards and codes
Ensure drawing requirements are followed
Write PQR’s and WPS’s and perform any necessary welding and testing required
Confirm that welders are following applicable WPS’s and ensure correct welding techniques are being administered.
Coordinate repairs with welders
Use filet weld gauges, standard measuring instruments, micrometers and (dial) calipers, etc.
Create and follow weld map(s) for product identification
Record the results of tests and welding inspections
Communicate all anomalies to the Supervisor
Verify welding personnel are qualified in the weld practices being performed
Prepare a register of welding personnel and equipment qualification
Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management
Perform safety training and write documentation reports
Valid AWS CWI – (Required)
Must have experience with DOT, preferably road and bridge.
MT Level 2 certification (Required - or have the ability to acquire within 30 days)
Experience performing quality inspection of welds required, in accordance with AWS D1.1 and D1.5, B31.1 & B31.3 (5+ years preferred)
Knowledge of AWS A3.0 Welding Terms and Definitions; ASME Sec V, & IX -preferred
At least 5 years’ experience as QAQC
Previous work experience in quality control or other related fields
Ability to use weld inspection and coatings inspection tools
Ability to verify materials using Material Test Reports (MTR s)
NACE LEVEL 1 or 2, API 1169, and other API certs - not required but a plus in addition to a valid CWI
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, internally and externally, including with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities
Strong coordination and organization skills, with strict emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
Must have the ability to work within strict deadlines and under pressure at times while maintaining a professional demeanor
HS Diploma or GED
Prior experience required.
1-3 years’ experience in the same or a related field
