Primary Function:
Perform non-destructive examination as a qualified Level II Inspector (union position). Checking and inspecting purchased and manufactured fabrications to ensure compliance with ISO 9712 or CP106 and other Quality Assurance Programs requirements.
Tools & Equipment:
Applicable weld measurement equipment including but not limited to Fillet weld gage, Bridge Cam gage, V-WAC gage, and HI/LO gage. Inspection table, V-blocks, "Jo" blocks, comparator blocks, length rods, hammer, inspection stamps, number and letter dies. Inside, outside and depth micrometers, super micrometers, depth verniers, bevel protractors, dial indicators, scales, calipers, parallels, gages, profilometer, magnaflux machines, hardness tester, air gaging, optical comparator, electronic indicators and comparators. NDT equipment and consumables. Personal computer. Other inspection-related equipment as needed.
Materials: In-process and finished parts and assemblies.
Source of Supervision: Quality Assurance Supervisor/Weld Engineer.
Direction Exercised: Directs the activities of Welding Operators, Inspectors and Certified Inspector Helpers.
Working Procedure:
- Perform non-destructive examination under the direction of a qualified Level II Inspector.
- The methods performed include, but are not limited, to VT, PT, MT, and UT.
- Interpret drawing requirements and specifications.
- Monitor the execution of welding work in progress to ensure that it complies with the applicable codes, standards, and specific job requirements as specified on Weld Procedure Specification.
- Work closely with welders on rod selection and control and documentation.
- Verify welder operator compliance and application with all applicable procedures and qualifications.
- Inspect production welding including joint by joint preparation, set up, root pass, and weld passes.
- Measure welds for the characteristics specified in the applicable procedures, for example: convexity, concavity, undercut and weld size.
- Verify dimensional accuracy of fabrications, utilizing the appropriate measuring devices.
- Verify hydrostatic testing on pressure vessels, filler metal control system, and cleaning and painting procedures including the use of proper paint and application.
- Prepare reports and records in accordance with procedures.
- Inspect and verify detail parts and weldments as needed.
- Verify equipment required is within calibration standards. Accept or reject NDT indications and fabrications, in accordance with specifications.
- Write inspection tags, document actions through the use of software on personal computer.
Requirements:
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or in a team setting.
- Hold an ISO 9712 or CP106 Certification, in VT Level II.
- Hold a current certificate in one other method OR commit to obtaining at least one other certification to CP106 - PT, MT, UT, or RT in a period of six (6) months from the date of placement, based on test date availability.
- Ongoing commitment to obtaining certification in all NDT methods required to meet the business needs.
- Up to 10% travel may be required for training or business purposes.
