Summary/Objective:
The staff CRNA is responsible for the administration of anesthesia to patients either with medical direction of a staff anesthesiologist, or non-medically directed in cooperation with a surgeon according to all facility policies. Participate with other facility team members to provide optimal patient care. As a nursing professional, uses the nursing process to care for patients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of the professional anesthesia care of the patient by utilizing the nursing care process. Coordinates care with other disciplines involved in patient care.
- Ensures patient safety through appropriate transport, transfer, and positioning of patient
- Ensures that all appropriate equipment and supplies are available and ready prior to the start of surgery and restock anesthesia carts and supply areas daily.
- Administer appropriate anesthetic techniques under supervision of or medical direction of staff anesthesiologist or non-medically directed in cooperation with the surgeon or medical director.
- Coordinates closely with the center’s nursing and medical staff to ensure optimum patient care.
- Completes all appropriate medical record and billing documentation according to center policies.
- Knowledgeable in the use and function of related anesthesia equipment and maintain good working condition of all anesthesia equipment including daily cleaning of reusable equipment.
- Makes plans for and implements appropriate patient care
- Follows assignments, teaches, and supervises care given by ancillary personnel.
- Using professional nursing care, assesses the needs and status of the patient to provide pre-op, intra-op and post-op evaluation as directed by anesthesia department policies.
- Maintains and completes patient records and chart confidentiality according to center policies.
- Institutes and coordinates emergency care as appropriate.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Possesses an understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients dependent on the stage of growth and development of an age group’s life span.
- Evaluates outcomes and adjusts nursing care process as necessary in consultation with other nursing staff and staff members as needed. Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
- Participates in staff meetings, committees, staff development and educational programs to meet personal, professional, facility certification and regulatory requirements as defined in State licensure requirements,
- Medicare, and the accreditation organization.
- Accepts responsibility for patient safety and assures safe practice.
- Demonstrates competency necessary to perform patient care.
- Participates as a member of the Center team to promote a positive working environment.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures of the facility.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and assists in other nursing activities as needed at Center.
Interpersonal
- Maintain open and positive communication with nursing personnel and other health professionals.
- Share relevant resources with staff.
- Communicate with patients, families/significant others.
- Maintain professionalism within NPSC/OAL.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and personnel information.
- Participate in continuing education programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s or Doctorate Degree with a focus in Anesthesia
- Current Pennsylvania State Licensure as an RN
- Certified as a Nurse Anesthetist
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current PALS and ACLS certifications or the ability to obtain ACLS within 1 year of hire and PALS within 2 years of hire.
