SCOPE OF WORK
The Corporate CPA is a professional position with advanced educational preparation and work experience in accounting, financial statement preparation, tax preparation, compliance support and auditing. The Corporate CPA works in close coordination with various corporate department executives, investors, and cross functional groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for oversight of month-end closing processes, as well as preparation and review of public filings with the SEC.
  • Contribute to the implementation and execution of processes and procedures regarding all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and operations requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial SEC reporting requirements, in adherence with GAAP, including the review and the integration of the deliverables from the Fund Admin.
  • Work closely with the Investor Relations team to conduct ad-hoc reporting, performance calculations, and operations due diligence inquiries.
  • Act as a liaison with bank and trade counterparties for deal execution, review fund flows and settlement documentation, assist with KYC/AML procedures, as well as confirming principal & interest payments, and requirements surrounding leverage facility reporting as required.
  • Preparation of the consolidated financial statements.
  • Manage all aspects of SEC compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Prepare disclosure checklist to ensure completeness of financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Manage the internal and external review process of all SEC filings (such as auditor, internal and external legal counsel and senior management).
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Assist in preparation of entity level forecasting.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis; prepare board and committee materials and dividend declaration package.

  • Review and analyze annual operating expenses.
  • Ensure accounting systems and process controls are following company standards.
  • Review and analysis of budgets prepared by accounting and cross functional team members.
  • Review compliance with loan agreements
  • Review REIT compliance and planning.
  • Manage internal and external audit requests.
  • Examines and analyzes accounting records to determine financial status.
  • Make recommendations regarding improved operations and efficiencies of the Corporation and financial position.
  • Provide guidance to corporate SBUs.
  • Operate and manage for profit.
  • Review financial records and prepare tax filing information, such as prior tax return forms, income statements, and documentation of expenditures forms to determine information needed for tax preparation.
  • Review tax filing information, such as material assets, income, surpluses, liabilities, and expenditures to verify reported financial status and identify potential tax issues.
  • Obtain sufficient relevant data to afford a reasonable basis for conclusions or recommendations in relation to all services.
  • Perform tax research and document findings.
  • Advise clients regarding effects of business activities on taxes, and on strategies for minimizing tax liability.
  • Stay current with the laws and rulings through reading literature and attending courses.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in accounting from a four-year college or university, a fifth-year university program degree, or a Master's degree (M.S.) is preferred.
  • State Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • 3-5 years working in a tax group of a public accounting firm, or in a financial services/investment management/capital markets tax role specifically including tax return compliance and planning experience.
  • Tax and finance experience in hospitality.
  • Working knowledge of the quarterly and annual Real Estate Investment Trusts qualification requirements.
  • Public accounting experience in the fixed income or alternative asset management space required, i.e.: BDC, REIT, Closed-End and/or Open-Ended structures.
  • Working knowledge of the tax accounting rules related to investment in debt instruments including MBS/ABS, commercial loans (i.e., income from interest, discount, premium, servicing and loan remediation (e.g., non-accrual status, bad debt expense, modification, foreclosure, REO sale, etc.), loan securitization and hedging transactions.
  • Mortgage REIT or specialty finance industry experience.
  • Highly proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Advanced QuickBooks knowledge required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Ability to propose and lead the application of new methodologies that satisfy systematic and scalable processes.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple deliverables at one time.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively communicate with business partners and management regarding accounting related matters.
  • Ability to remain positive under pressure and to motivate team members with a focus on continual staff development.
  • Individual must be a team player and be able to work independently.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regularly required to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a computer, printer, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc.
  • Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.
  • Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and up to ten pounds of force frequently.
  • Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work.
  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; and interact with staff, other organizations and the public.
