OnsiteCollins Aerospace in Rockford, IL site aids in assembling the Ram Air Turbines (RAT) used for aircraft emergency power generation. Our Ram Air Turbines have been used to save aircrafts and over 2,600 lives.
The Certified Precision Machinist is responsible for supporting production and engineering groups within the facility on a multitude of different programs collaborating with cross functional teams. Support may range from modifying components to fabricating a wide variety of needed items.
The work associated with this position will be performed onsite in Rockford, IL. 1st Shift (Must be open to working any shift as this is subject to change based on business need)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Safely set up and operate all boring machines, lapping machines, drills, hones, ID/OD grinders, surface grinders, lathes and mills, (manual, NC, and CNC) in the department/ classification.
- Preset tooling for setups and/or tool replacement using department tool setting equipment.
- Read and thoroughly understand blueprints, Job Instruction Sheets, CMM reports, route cards, overhaul manual instructions (where applicable) and other necessary documentation.
- Ability to inspect the work using (SMI) standard measuring instruments..
- Knows tooling and chip-cutting processes to troubleshoot production problems.
- Performs minor deburring and minor assembly as required.
- Works normally with a minimum of supervision but may be required to work with supervision and engineering on new procedures/programs etc.
- Complete necessary documents and records accurately and legibly.
- Practice safe work habits and maintain a neat and orderly work area.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FAA Precision Machining Certificate
- Journeyman’s card as Precision Machinist
- Mazak/Mazatrol programming
