Job description

The ACCS Team is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS)  candidate to provide support and advocacy to persons served is heard throughout the service delivery. Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and to develop mutuality in peer-to-peer relationships.  Assist and/or support persons served in the development of useful tools for their personal recovery, such as Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP). The Peer acts as a role model for persons served in interacting with community providers and agencies.  Provides guidance, coaching, training, support, education, and advocacy with regard to interacting and networking with community resources and treatment providers appropriately and effectively to meet the needs of the person served.  Provides trauma-informed, person-centered community-based interventions that support Health & Wellness. Provide support to persons served in group formats while exploring meaningful activities of wellness and community life.

 

Please Note: The position is 40 hours per week on the day shift. The selected candidate will work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, and Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday and Saturday off.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive:

  • Provide Peer Support to persons served and facilitate Peer Support groups and other educational groups to promote empowerment and increase self-sufficiency.  Provide advocacy and support to persons served during intake and the transition process and across the spectrum of services. 
  • Share personal recovery experiences that identify the Peer Support Specialist's own skills, supports and resources to inspire hope, self-determination and to develop mutuality in peer-to-peer relationships.
  • Assist and/or support persons served in the development of useful tools and coping mechanisms for their personal recovery, such as Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP).  Provide training and support to persons served in recovery principles and techniques, wellness management and community life development planning.
  • Advocate for persons served and support their development of self-advocacy skills and work collaboratively with ACCS team members to ensure that the needs of the person served are being met.  Facilitate linkage to community-based services and networks to promote opportunities for empowerment and increase self-determination. 
  • Attend meetings and serve on agency committees, project teams and work groups to discuss issues and brainstorm solutions to problems, to provide open communication between disciplines and to keep those involved abreast on changes to an individual's needs. 
  • Support person served social integration through linkages to a broad range of community-based services and support systems.
  • Serve as a member of the person served' s treatment team and assist the person served in communicating their personal recovery plan and goals to the treatment team.  Assist staff in understanding the person served' s perspective, stresses, pressures and abilities through training and consultation. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and Peer Certification through a recognized Certified Specialist Program.
  • Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.
  • Must have lived experience as currently/formerly receiving mental health services.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in a written format.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and individually.
  • Ability to remain calm, rational and react quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of the organization and functions of the community mental health programs.

This requisition will remain open until filled; however, first consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.   Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and Peer certification through a recognized Certified Specialist Program.     Based on assignment to a Family Support Specialist position applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved Professional Parent Advisory League (PAL) entry-level training as a Family Support Specialist.    Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.
