Certified Peer Support Specialist

REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor Lead - ALC                                                                                                                             FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Full Time Shift Monday-Friday, some weekend work required. Possible shifts: 7a-3:30p; 12:30p-9p; 2:30p-11p           

POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and Peer Support for clients in outpatient and inpatient settings. The CPSS performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, from young adult to old age, in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. These duties apply to Revive Ministries, Inc.  substance use treatment programs.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Will plan for, obtain, and evaluate services for the persons served. 
2. As applicable, will follow the TCM Recovery Plan, Crisis Response Plan and/or Crisis Plan when delivering services to the consumer or relevant collaterals. 
3. The CPPS will provide direct and indirect supportive services to consumers in the community to minimize risk and decrease the likelihood of an escalating crisis (Wellness Recovery Action Plans, Stress Management, Education, 
4. Resource Awareness, Recovery Oriented, Service Access, etc.). 
5. The CPPS will complete all required records as dictated by the agency. 
6. Follows protocols and in alliance with relevant stakeholder expectations and requirements. 
7. The CPPS will promote agency philosophy within the community. 
8. Lead group therapy sessions 
9. Maintain records per Revive Life House Policies. 
10. Provide client transportation.
11. All other duties as assigned. 

BACKGROUND/ EDUCATION:  

1. Be eighteen (18) years of age or older; 
2. Have a current or past diagnosis of a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders; 
3. Have received or be receiving treatment.  
4. Have a high school diploma or GED certificate; 
5. Demonstrate a pattern of recovery from a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders; 
6. Successfully complete adult Peer Support Specialist training approved by the department. 
7. Work in conjunction with the clinical team to coordinate services.  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: 

Must have knowledge of medical privacy and confidentiality (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA]); computer applications/software to include Microsoft Office programs/MS Outlook (e-mail), and internet familiarity. 

Experience working with individuals and families who have various mental, behavioral, and substance abuse conditions.   

SKILLS REQUIRED: 

1. Follow all applicable regulations including 908 KAR 2:220. Adult Peer Support Specialist. 
2. Successfully complete, maintain, and submit a minimum of six (6) hours of related training or education in each subsequent year. 
3. Provide Peer Support services in an individual and group setting. 
4. Use relevant personal stories to assist clients through experience. 
5. Serve as a role model to the client. 
6. Encourage client voice and choice during development and implementation of plans.

Physical Demands:

The employee may be required to exert 21 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 11 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Job duties also require about 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in an 8-hour workday. Sitting may be required only intermittently and occasionally. Stooping, bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying is required frequently.

Environmental Conditions:

The employee will work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in hot and humid weather or very frigid temperatures, depending on the season, in order to assist with inventory restocking, The employee may be required to travel independently from one location to another to work at a different location. This may result in bodily discomfort. The house itself is open and ventilated well with central heat and air conditioning.  The person may work intermittently outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Mental Demands:

There are several daily deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant levels of stress for some individuals.  The position must deal with the clients and staff daily on a variety of issues. 

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

1. Minimum of 40 hours per week; occasionally must work 2-hour group on weekends.   
2. Must be able to work well with other staff and clients. 
3. Minimal travel required.
