Job description

The mission of the Florida Lions Eye Clinic (FFLEC) is to provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical eye care that is accessible to underserved individuals in Florida.

Our programs will prevent blindness by providing exemplary state-of-the-art eyecare, free of charge, to those individuals in the State of Florida, who do not have health insurance and are at, or below, 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Services provided by (FFLEC) include comprehensive eye exams and medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases, of which diseases include, but are not limited to, retina, cataract, and glaucoma conditions, and if left untreated, can lead to blindness. FLLEC provides services to patients with diverse backgrounds so cultural awareness and sensitivity are a key focus.

Position Summary

The Certified Ophthalmic Technician will serve as the manager of clinical operations, managing the daily operations of the clinic to ensure that the clinic follows all state, local, and FLLEC policies. The responsibilities include overseeing the training and performance of office staff, Ophthalmic assistance, and volunteers, ensuring appropriate productivity of all members of the clinic team. This will include scheduling staff to provide effective coverage for patient and doctor needs and working with the doctors and staff to coordinate efforts to maximize effective utilization of each doctor's skills. This position requires that the Clinic Manager have or acquire skills to be able to step into temporary ophthalmic technical/medical patient care if an unexpected staffing shortage occurs. The Clinic Manager is responsible for defining policies and procedures applicable to patient care and medical administration, and to assess the performance of the team members under their supervision regularly. This position oversees all program related positions and works directly with the doctors, paid and volunteer, and clinic volunteers assisting paid staff in providing care. This is a free clinic and we do not bill patients or insurance companies.

Specific Responsibilities

· Ensure compliance of the clinical practice with all pertinent regulations.

· Collaborate with Physicians, Volunteers, Ophthalmic Technicians, Management, and staff to support quality patient outcomes.

· Training, coaching, and evaluating the performance of clinic employees.

· Developing and administering the clinic budget and ensuring cost effective operations.

· Focuses on ways to improve patient care and operational effectiveness and efficiency.

· Hiring, onboarding, and training new team members and volunteers.

· Utilize quality assurance testing to determine if staff are meeting facility standards.

· Overseeing staff, doctor, volunteer, and patient scheduling to meet patients’ appointment goals.

· Keep inventory of general clinic supplies such as medications, and patient educational items

· Serve as the Ophthalmic Technician when needed. Such tasks include preparing patient to see attending provider, preparing exam and treatment rooms, applying aseptic techniques, performing routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgeries

· Maintain and grow relationships with the satellite office, surgery centers and third-party providers.

· As needed, present our agency to the community to describe patient services; promote FLLEC to organizations, medical doctors, and medical personnel to attract volunteers.

· Administer grant funds as they pertain to the medical areas of FLLEC.

Reports to the Executive Director

Preferred Experience

Proven experience in medical office management and direct patient care.

Leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience in office software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Experience in Ophthalmic Clinic with some level of certification COA, COT, or COMT.

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is valued.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Management, Public Health, or a related field.

Compensation:

This position offers a starting base salary, a benefits package, and a team-oriented atmosphere that is both positive and rewarding. Starting compensation includes a potential salary range of $70,000 to $85,000 depending on level of experience as well as a full benefits package that includes:
