Job description

Description: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) helps Occupational Therapy clients by providing rehabilitative services, under the direction of occupational therapists, to persons with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments. This position would be traveling between our Broomfield and Boulder locations as well as covering any gaps for Occupational Therapists. Requirements: 1.

Verifies client information by interviewing client; reviewing and/or recording medical history; confirming purpose of treatment. 2. Helps clients improve their quality of life by helping them compensate for limitations, such as, helping injured workers improve their motor skills and re-enter the labor force, and teaching persons with learning disabilities to prepare meals or to use public transportation and increase their independence, 3.

Follows treatment plan developed in collaboration with occupational therapist by teaching techniques, such as, the proper method of moving from a bed into a wheelchair, and the best ways to stretch and limber muscles; monitoring activities to make sure they are performed correctly; providing encouragement, bringing treatment that is not having the intended effect to the attention of the therapist 4. Maintains patient Occupational Therapy records by recording client's progress for use by the occupational therapist. 5.

Generates revenues by recording billing information of services rendered. 6. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

7. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. 8.

Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. 9. Serves and protects the Occupational Therapy practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.

10. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. 11.

Enhances Occupational Therapy practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. 12. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate of an accredited OTA program; Successful completion with passing mark on exam administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Experience: Other Requirements: Actively licensed as COTA in the State of Colorado required. Current CPR certificate required. Performance Requirements: Knowledge: 1.

Knowledge of OT principles, standards and practices 2. Knowledge of the exercises, modalities and training techniques used in Occupational Therapy. 3.

Knowledge of BCO policies, procedures and limitations Skills: 1. Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills. 2.

Effective clinical problem-solving skills Abilities: 3. Ability to administer a wide range of Occupational Therapy treatments using a variety of methods and apparatuses. 4.

Ability to follow detailed therapy plans and instructions; ability to adapt exercises to specific needs of patient and to recommend therapy changes which facilitate the patient's progress. 5. Ability to plan, organize, instruct and lead the work of others.

6. Ability to record accurate treatment notes and patient progress through oral and written communication. 7.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, co-workers, patients and vendors. Equipment Operated: Often demonstrates and helps patients use assistive and adaptive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes. Operates Occupational Therapy equipment such as ultrasound, traction, and electrical stimulation.

A laptop or computer at set workstation is used to document visit in EMR. Work Environment: This position works in the patient physical therapy gym in an orthopedic practice. Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves continually during working hours. The position is subject to lifting objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing wheel chairs, and transporting and supporting patients. The employee must be constantly alert for patient safety.
