Certified Nurse Midwife (Cnm)

MAPMG is seeking to hire a full-time Certified Nurse Midwife to join our practice at Kaiser Permanente Gaithersburg Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.

In collaboration with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, we provide high-quality, patient-centered health care. Through this partnership, our clinicians are part of an industry-leading health care delivery model, having access to advanced technological tools and receiving comprehensive practice support.  Our members have easy access to specialists and medical records, thus allowing you to treat the whole patient. 

Responsibilities:

• Performs medical screening exams to diagnose labor and evaluate for pregnancy complications
• Reviews patient history, documents evaluations, orders lab and imaging studies as needed
• Obtains consultation with appropriate physician as indicated
• Follows facility specific standardized procedures
• Evaluates patient for appropriate pain management including requests for epidurals
• Teaches, counsels and guides women regarding their individual health care and encourages them to be involved. Teaches classes as needed. Emphasizes active patient participation, clear communication between the provider and the patient, and promotes an individualized health care experience
• Serves as an OB/GYN team member: Works closely with physicians and staff to ensure healthy pregnancies and deliveries. Provides emotional and social support, which can reduce the length of labor, the need for pain medication, and need for cesarean delivery
• Conducts postpartum rounds including contraception counseling, prescribing and discharge planning/education
• Performs other duties as assigned including circumcisions and surgical first assistance for cesarean deliveries after appropriate training/competency has been demonstrated

What You Can Expect: 

• Join a team of providers attending 170-185 births per month with an 18-20% C-section rate.
• Full-Scope Midwifery practice including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecological care.

• Flexible scheduling options are available. This includes the option to work either a 32 or 40 hours per week position, which is equivalent to a 0.8 or 1.0 FTE respectively. 
  • The 0.8 FTE schedule entails two 12-hour shifts at the hospital and one 8-hour shift at the medical center.
  • The 1.0 FTE schedule entails two 12-hour shifts at the hospital two 8-hour shifts at the medical center.

Qualifications: 

• An MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) or equivalent is required for the position
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a full scope midwifery practice, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecological care
• As a condition of employment, all clinicians and employees are required to verify COVID-19 vaccination status
• Board certified by American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) is required
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licenses in Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required
• Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) must be obtained within the first year of hire
• Demonstrated ability to work in teams and have effective communication skills
• Demonstrated understanding of all regulatory requirements and legal considerations of midwifery care
